Baldur’s Gate 3 is based on Dungeons & Dragons, which means the player has the freedom to choose between countless races and classes to play as. Even when a player picks a class, they don’t necessarily have to limit themselves to it; they can multiclass.

Baldur’s Gate 3: How To Beat Minthara

Minthara is a powerful character the plalyer could have to fight in Baldur's Gate 3.

The Sorcerer class is one of the classes the player can play as, powerful with magic, but can be made more versatile with some multiclassing. Multiclassing can come with many disadvantages, but it may be worth it for many players.

The Sorcerer class

A Human Sorcerer in Baldur's Gate 3

“Sorcerers are natural spellcasters, drawing on inherent magic from a gift or bloodline.“

The Sorcerer class is the most efficient class when it comes to raw magic power. They’re extremely efficient spell casters who can deal some heavy damage. They can also be of help when it comes to support in combat. Their innate talent for magic makes them powerful spellcasters.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Sorcerer class uses charisma as its modifier when casting spells, making this ability essential in their build.

This class also possesses three subclasses, each with its own characteristics:

- Wild Magic

- Draconic Bloodline

- Storm Sorcery

They get saving throw proficiency in Charisma and Constitution. As well as proficiencies in Dagger, Quarterstaff, and Light Crossbow.

Quarterstaves are underrated weapons in Baldur's Gate 3, but the Legendary weapon Markoheshkir is the best option for endgame spellcasting classes.

When it comes to multiclassing a Sorcerer, the player should keep in mind that there might be downsides, such as losing access to extremely powerful spells. However, it can also definitely grant many advantages.

Best Multiclass Build For The Sorcerer - The ‘Sorlock’

The very best Multiclass option for the sorcerer is what the Dungeons & Dragons community refers to as Sorlock, which is a combination of Sorcerer and Warlock.

The main reason these two classes work so well together is because they both use Charisma as their primary ability and as their spellcasting ability. This means that a Sorcerer will not cast weaker spells if they reclass into a Warlock.

Additionally, by reclassing into a Warlock, the character will get access to light armor and simple weapon proficiencies otherwise inaccessible to them.

Combining the power of Eldritch Invocations with the Metamagic makes for a deadly build. The player should make sure to grab invocations such as Agonizing Blast to enhance their Eldritch Blast.

When choosing which pact to go for, as it’s accessible via the Warlock Class, this build should choose the Pact of the Blade. This will allow the sorcerer to summon the pact weapon, and cause it to do damage via Charisma, instead of the usual Strength and Dexterity.

Other Multiclass Options

While the Sorlock class is definitely overpowered and comes with many uses, the player can make any Multiclass build work to some degree. Here are some other viable options for players who might not want to go the Sorlock route:

Fighter

While it may seem unconventional, multiclassing a Sorcerer with the Fighter class can be extremely useful. Not only will the Sorcerer get access to light and medium armor, as well as shields, simple weapons, and martial weapons proficiency, which they might greatly need as the Sorcerer class is quite lacking, but this will also open the way for the Sorcerer to get Surge, which could make a character very destructive.

Us will be of use to the player early on in the game, and also later on in Baldur's Gate 3.

Surge allows a character to get an extra action when used. And, with the possibility of Sorcerer also having Haste, this could mean the ability to attack many times in a single turn.

Bard

The Bard, similarly to the Warlock, shares the same primary ability and the spellcasting ability with the Sorcerer, making them a naturally good mix. A Sorcerer’s spell will not get weakened by reclassing into a Bard, as they both cast using the Charisma ability. If the player wants to reclass into a Bard, they should probably want a character that is more of q support than offensive as that is what Bard features. They will get abilities such as buffing or de-buffing enemies with their music.

Especially, the Bardic importation might be very useful to unlock, and may be worth the reclassing as it is a very powerful buff to allies. They’d also provide much-needed light armor proficiency to the Sorcerer.

Paladin

Minthara as a Paladin

Multiclassing a Sorcerer into a Paladin might be another great option, especially with the existence of Divine Smite, which can deal additional damage as radiant damage. It’s also important to mention that the Paladin’s spellcasting ability is Charisma, which will work perfectly with the Sorcerer.

This would make this Multiclass both amazing at spellcasting, but also viable for melee damage when needed.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available to play on PC and PlayStation 5.
