It doesn't seem like the developers at Larian Studios had plans for DLCs or expansions when Bladur's Gate 3 was first launched, but the community is asking and the studio is listening to one of gaming's most supportive and vocal communities. It's possible that after the dust settles from all the awards getting thrown at CEO Swen Vincke, the studio will add some extra content to Baldur's Gate 3's already massive content.

All of the following regions are referenced in some way in Baldur's Gate 3, either as part of the scenery to improve the immersion factor or as background to events that take place in the game. Those who already have some experience with D&D lore and previous games in the franchise will already know these places, while gamers who have been introduced to the legends of Faerun through BG3 can learn about exotic locations they've only heard about, so a DLC about any of the following locations would have a wide appeal.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a big game, and there are plenty of players who have yet to finish their story. Be warned that some of the following DLC ideas might give away the epilogue for certain characters.

6 Menzoberranzan

Dreaming Of The Drow

Much of Baldur's Gate 3 takes place in the Underdark, and there's no shortage of Drow characters in the story, so it feels like a visit to one of their cities has been left out. The party got to make a trip to the Drow City of Ust Natha in Baldur's Gate 2, so the location wouldn't necessarily have to be Menzoberranzan, but it is one of the better-known Drow cities and is mentioned at some memorable points in Baldur's Gate 3.

Menzoberranzan, also known as the City of Spiders, is in the Upper Northdark and has some of the most dramatic and beautiful architecture in all of the Realms. It's also the hometown of Drizzt Do'Urden, and many adventurers start, visit, or begin in its shadowy corridors.

5 Avernus

When The Campaign Goes To Hell

There's a table-top campaign entitled Descent Into Avernus which can stand as a prequel to Baldur's Gate 3, and players get a glimpse of the realm when they're trying to escape the Nautiloid. A DLC could be something similar, such as describing the Blood War and the reign of Zariel, which is connected to Karlach's backstory.

On the other hand, this could also be set in a future time after Baldur's Gate, with Karlach and Wyll battling the demons of Avernus together. That's one of the possible endings for the Barbarian and Warlock companions, and a DLC would allow players to join them.

4 Elturel

Not Just Act 1 Backstory

The title of the campaign Descent Into Avernus doesn't just mean that's where the player is going. It's a reference to Elturel, one of Faerun's most prosperous cities, that was sold out to the fallen Celestial but now demon Zariel and dragged into the Nine Hells.

This explains the number of refugees on the road to Baldur's Gate, starting with Zevlor and the Teiflings in Druid's Emerald Grove. Many are fleeing from the army of the Absolute, but the Tieflings who have been banished Elturel also need a place to be. For players who are interested in the lore of certain NPCs, this helps to explain the character of Zevlor, the leader of the Teiflings seeking refuge in the Emerald Grove.

3 Waterdeep

A popular companion thanks to his adorable but awkward charm and magical talents, Gale is also known as the Wizard of Waterdeep. Every so often, he mentions his old hometown and those that are romancing him will be invited back to meet his family if all goes well.

2 Netheril

The Source Of The Netherese Crown

An ancient city that fell a long time ago, Netheril still exists, but in the time of Baldur's Gate 3, it became a bastion of the Shadow Empire and was destroyed a second time. It has a long and complicated history that spans more than 4000 years in the D&D universe and involves some of the characters that appear in BG3, namely Elminster and the goddess of Magic, Mystra.

There's a lot that could happen in a DLC about the home of the powerful magic user that created the Netherese crown. It could be a prequel DLC in which players either try to help or hinder the creation of the crown, or a vision of the near past or contemporary time, in which the protagonist has to fight against the Shadow Empire and help bring the city down for good.

1 Neverwinter

A High-Profile Location That Fans Already Know

It's not just in the D&D movie, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, that made this frosty location popular. There are also the Neverwinter Nights video games and table-top modules like Tyrants of Moonsea that also take place in the city that many also call the Jewel of the North.

Neverwinter has one of the richest histories of the cities in the Forgotten Realms, making it perfect for a Baldur's Gate 3 expansion.

Volo, the NPC that appears in BG3, wrote a detailed account of the city according to D&D lore, and he claimed it was the most advanced and cosmopolitan city in all of Fearun, which is saying a lot compared to cities like Waterdeep or Baldur's Gate. The city is famous for its lighting, one of the many quality-of-life improvements that help keep the winter outside.
