In Baldur's Gate 3 Cleric spells tend to be based on the class's ability to support allies or CC enemies, though there are a few distinct damaging spells that players should pick up, too. Clerics are much more than just healers, after all, and some of the best Cleric spells prove their potential in combat.

Baldur's Gate 3: Best Level 6 Spells, Ranked

Players looking to completely dominate their enemies in Baldur's Gate 3 should prioritize these Level 6 spells.

Most of the best early Cleric spells let the class more effectively buff and support party members, like Bless and Guidance. But as things progress, Clerics quickly gain more useful combat skills that turn it into a divine powerhouse. These best BG3 Cleric spells are a mix of support and damage spells and are worth learning as soon as they become available.

Bless is such a powerful spell because it's available right from the start of the game, and it provides an effect that remains useful well into its end. For a Standard Action, an Ally will gain an extra d4 on all Attack Rolls and Saving Throws for 10 turns, or 60 seconds out of combat.

This effect might seem minor, but you can target up to three allies at once, including the Cleric themselves. An extra d4 to anything is helpful, and it's well worth the cost of one Lvl 1 Spell Slot.

Guidance

  • Guidance Effect: The target gains a 1d4 bonus to ability checks.

Cantrip

Standard Action

1.5m (5ft)

10 turns (60 seconds)

Like Bless, Guidance is one of the best Cleric spells because it can be used from the very beginning of the game and remains a core skill for the rest of Baldur's Gate 3. As a Cantrip that doesn't require any Spell Slots, players can use Guidance out of combat (and in the middle of dialogue) as much as they please.

Like Bless, an additional 1d4 isn't much, but for almost no cost and being castable at will, there's almost no reason not to use Guidance on every ability check possible. Use this to intimidate, persuade, and otherwise unlock ability-based dialogue options more easily by clicking on the icon at the bottom of the Dice screen.

Spiritual Weapon

Spiritual Weapon is one of the many BG3 summoning spells, and one of the few that Clerics can take advantage of – especially at only spell slot level 2. It has several variations, which each have different types of damage and special effects. But because of its low movement speed, it's best to summon a Spiritual Weapon as a distraction right in front of enemies, to prevent party members from going down.

At Level 11, Clerics get Planar Ally, which is a more powerful Summon than Spiritual Weapon. But because it only requires a Bonus Action, and can be used starting at Level 3, Spiritual Weapon is useful for longer, and can still be summoned alongside a Planar Ally for two extra party members.

Guardian of Faith

BG3 Best Cleric Spells Guardian of Faith
  • Guardian of Faith Effect: Call forth a divine guardian that attacks nearby enemies. Every time it deals damage, the guardian loses an equal amount of Hit Points.

Until Killed/Dismissed

Guardian of Faith is a Cleric summon that becomes available at Level 7, but unlike its other summonable allies, Guardian of Faith can't move. Instead, they protect a wide area and instantly strike enemies that enter its vicinity. It will also strike enemies back immediately after being hit, providing the party with supreme area denial.

Player decisions in Baldur's Gate 3 have a lot of power and can determine the fate of certain characters. The following should be kept alive.

The problem with Guardian of Faith is both that it can't move and that it will lose HP when damaging enemies. This means the Guardian of Faith will only remain for a few turns if placed optimally, but in those turns it will kill enemies, distract them, and give the party some room to breathe.

Flame Strike is a straight-up offensive Cleric spell that deals an enormous amount of Fire damage in a small area. Learned at Level 9, Flame Strike can be cast at the full distance of 60ft, covers an area that can encapsulate a handful of packed enemies, and doesn't tend to leave much standing.

Flame Strike is an ability that can be used to great effect in taking out weaker backline enemies, like opposing casters and ranged enemies. But placed well, it can wipe out a squad of melee bruisers without damaging party members – just look for the outlines that highlight which targets will be affected.

Spirit Guardians

BG3 Best Cleric Spells Spirit Guardians
  • Spirit Guardians Effect: Call forth spirits to protect you. Nearby enemies take 3d8 Radiant or 3d8 Necrotic damage per turn, and their Movement Speed is halved.

Level 3

Self-cast, with an area of 3m (10ft)

10 turns (60 seconds)

Arguably the best Cleric spell BG3 players can use, Spirit Guardians is a multi-faceted powerhouse in most every battle in the game. It can be learned at Level 5, and uses a level 3 spell slot, and deals a huge amount of Holy damage in the area immediately surrounding the Cleric, for ten turns.

It's especially useful when facing off hordes of low-HP enemies, like defending Halsin and his portal in Act 2, or facing down a flock of crows in various areas of Acts 2 and 3. Enable Spirit Guardians, and simply walk into the frontlines to deal big chunks of damage both when touching enemies for the first time, and when they begin their turn while remaining in the area of effect.
