Baldur's Gate 3 Up For 5 More Awards

  • Game of the Year
  • Gayming Magazine Reader's Award
  • Authentic Representation Award
  • Best LGBTQ Character (Dame Aylin and Shadowheart)
  • Industry Diversity Award

The Gayming Awards' recognition of Baldur's Gate 3 echoes the game's recent GLAAD Awards 2024 nomination for Outstanding Video Game. Baldur's Gate 3 has been commended for its LGBTQ+ representation by not only advocacy groups and award nods, but by players as well. The game's inclusive character creation features non-gendered body types and gives players the ability to choose what pronouns they can be referred to in the game. Players using any combination of body type and gender can pursue relationships with any of the Baldur's Gate 3 romanceable characters, providing players with a much less restrictive experience than many games have offered in the past.

Outside of playable characters and romance options, Baldur's Gate 3 contains its fair share of LGBTQ+ representation in its NPCs. YouTuber Abigail Thorn voices Nocturne, one of the game's trans characters, who is central to one of the companions' storylines. Visiting the circus in Rivington, players can meet the glamorous necromancer Lucretious, the circus's leader, who also happens to be a drag queen. Players meet and interact with an abundance of queer characters while wandering the Sword Coast in Baldur's Gate 3, each written and portrayed respectfully by Larian Studios and their performers.

While the LGBTQ+ representation in Baldur's Gate 3 has no doubt helped the game win a devoted fanbase, it's also seen its detractors. Despite that, Baldur's Gate 3 continues to cement itself as a force to be reckoned with in the gaming industry--and in its respectful representation of the LGBTQ+ community.
