To veteran FPS players, Back 4 Blood might seem familiar, from its character dialogue-heavy approach to multiplayer and AI director-paced gameplay. That's because Back 4 Blood is Turtle Rock Studio's spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead.
Turtle Rock Studios is comprised of former Left 4 Dead developers, and it's clear to see the lessons learned on improving player retention. Not only do aspects like Back 4 Blood's card system improve replayability, but the game includes long-term rewards for consistent players.
Like most modern multiplayer shooters, Back 4 Blood includes character outfits alongside other cosmetics. These allow players to show off their dedication to the game without breaking its balance. But these outfits come at a cost, one that can be literal or figurative.
Buying Back 4 Blood's Outfits
As expected from a service game, players can buy outfits by directly spending money. At the time of writing, the only way to directly purchase Back 4 Blood's outfits is through the game's ultimate edition. But players shouldn't be surprised if future passes include instant access to other cosmetics as a bonus.
Players who don't want to spend money shouldn't worry. There is a free alternate route to unlocking outfits. Instead of money, they'll be putting in playtime.
Earning Back 4 Blood's Outfits
Players can also find the outfits in Back 4 Blood's supply lines. Players can access the supply lines once they reach Fort Hope. The supply lines work like Battle Passes in other competitive shooters. They're a list of rewards that players earn sequentially by beating levels and earning supply points.
There are a few key differences, however. First, access to the supply lines currently comes free with the game and doesn't seem to have a seasonal expiration date. Second, multiple supply lines are available at once, and players can pick and choose which supply lines get their hard-earned points. Some supply lines are hidden until the player completes others, so it's best to research long-term rewards ahead of time.
Players earn supply points by completing levels and getting achievements, but there are a couple of factors they need to know. Players get more supply points at more challenging difficulty levels and can only get those points while playing Back 4 Blood in multiplayer mode. A future patch may alleviate this, but players should be ready to queue up with others for now.
