To learn more about Madden NFL 22, players have several options. They can do a bit of trial and error, play drills, look online, or rack up some time in the tutorials. Any of these ways will be fine for general knowledge, but there is a good reason why experts always seem to win their games over the average player.

Knowledge is power on and off of the field in Madden NFL 22. Winning games isn't done with just talent, it's done by know how to make magic happen. These tricks aren't easy to find or master, but those who do will get a distinct advantage in the area of versatility. Football is a game of inches and these tips tilt the balance of the field by a matter of years.

10 Precision Moves

Madden NFL 22 Using A Precision Spin Move With The Running Back

Players got to hear all about the new precision moves this offseason, but they've had a hard time pulling it off on the field. There's very little worse than making a successful player in Face of the Franchise and then watching him move in slow motion on a spin.

When spinning, hold the left joystick in the desired direction of the spin. This will execute a precision spin move, which works much faster than a regular spin. Don't get stuck having the fastest running back on the field looking like he moves underwater.

9 Burst Upfield With Turbo

One of those mistakes everyone makes when playing Madden NFL 22 is holding on to the turbo trigger. This used to be the smart thing to do for a while, but there is a lateral movement penalty associated with using it.

Many rookies know about this and so they hold off until they get into completely open field. That's alright, but if the turbo button is pressed when first cutting upfield, there's a boost in momentum that kicks in faster than either holding onto the turbo or waiting until later.

8 Program Audibles

Madden NFL 22 Replacing An Audible With The Bears During Practice

It's easy to call audibles from the line. New players learning about MUT see the option every time the offense is on the line. The problem with the audibles is that the plays are often really terrible so there's no reason to change into them.

Thankfully, instead of the default plays doomed to fail, gamers can change these options. Enter the formation during practice or a game, hit the trigger that says "Audibles," select a play to replace, then choose a new one from the book. It's recommended to do this during practice for every formation, that way every unit on the field has an array of plays to change into when the called play looks like it could be ugly.

7 Hurry To The Line, Spike, And Fake Spike

Madden NFL 22 Giants Spiking The Ball During Practice

Tempo is perhaps the greatest advantage in the actual NFL that transfers over to the game. By hurrying to the line (holding Y/triangle after the play is over), the defense won't get a chance to change their player personnel. Hike it fast enough and they won't even get a chance to change their play. If the defense fails on one play, keep hurrying to the line and exploiting them until they figure it out.

Additionally, when time is short, players can call for a spike (B/circle) or a fake spike (X/square) after the play ends. The fake spike is a big risk, but, if used at the right time, it can catch the defensive backs out of position.

6 Change Player Priorities

Madden NFL 22 Calling An Adjustment With The Saints

Perhaps the most criminally underused option in all of Madden NFL 22 is the coaching adjustments. Beginners can become beasts by using this option and they don't even have to play a position on the field.

There are all kinds of goodies to play with here, but most importantly, gamers can choose the CPU's decisions. They can tell running backs to be careful with the ball or defensive linemen to play for more sacks. The default options are alright, but it's much better to program these depending on the situation.

5 Disguise Coverage

Not knowing who the defenders with the best X-Factor abilities are covering is a huge problem for the offense. They can't know if their primary routes are going to be swallowed up. But most average players can tell who is covering who because they line up right across from them.

For those who like the element of surprise (that should be everyone who loves good defense), go ahead and disguise the coverage. Hit Y/triangle and then tap right on the left thumbstick. This selects the "base Align" option, which leaves players in a default position, not giving away who is covering which part of the field.

4 Trade For Superstars Without Breaking The Bank

In Franchise mode, one common frustration is that teams always want one first-round pick for their superstars and a few late-round picks for their superstars. This usually limits players to one big blockbuster trade per season, but some creative minds have found a way around this.

Trade a bunch of backups for late-round picks. Next, target a team that has a severe need at a position like Center or Tight End. The injuries list can help identify who the desperate teams are. Then trade a backup to them for a first-round pick. With this new first-round pick and bevy of late-round picks, go get a superstar. Repeat this until the team is full of Pro Bowl talent.

3 Designate Favorite Plays

Heads up, this one only works on the latest console versions of the game. By tapping Y/triangle twice over a play, the play will get a little heart in the upper-righthand corner. That's a cute effect, but it also speeds up playcalling in the long run.

Players are able to sort plays by their favorites. So grab those running and passing plays that always seem to work, give them some love, and basically make a personalized playbook full of exclusively successful plays.

2 Level Up Twice As Fast

Madden NFL 22 Celebrating A First Down In The Yard

It's not uncommon or unreasonable to have a favorite mode. Face of the Franchise players and The Yard players are usually looking for a very different experience. But if the goal is to level up a player, then the best thing to do is to play both modes.

The experience for both of these modes is connected, so leveling up a build in one mode will transfer the skill points and experience to the same build in the other mode. These modes taper off with the experience they give, so those looking to max out their avatars should participate in both about equally.

1 Make The Whole Defense Fall Down

Madden NFL 22 Rams Knocking Over The Entire 49ers Defense

Most of the time, this is going to be a tip about what not to do. Players who rush two or fewer players on defense will find that their entire defense falls down on first contact. It's quite comical and most players still think it's a glitch. It's actually a feature to discourage players from playing in all coverage.

But there actually is a smart time to do this on defense. When it's the final play of the game and the opponent could win with a Hail Mary pass, rush no one. The defense will fall down, sure, but running plays aren't a concern at this stage.
