Avowed is an upcoming role-playing game by Obsidian Entertainment, the developer famous for well-known titles such as Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords, Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, and The Outer Worlds. Obsidian's Games Are Generally Released in the Spring or Fall

While most developers tend toward only one particular release window for their games, the release dates for Obsidian Entertainment's games have been known to swing on a rather large pendulum. In fact, the developer's releases are split almost evenly, with half of its games having been released in the spring and the other half in the fall.

Obsidian's erratic release history alone makes it difficult to predict when Avowed might be released. Both Pillars of Eternity games had spring releases and, since Avowed is in the same universe, Obsidian may opt for a spring release for it as well. However, Obsidian's more recent titles, like The Outer Worlds and Pentiment, as well as some of the developer's biggest games, like Fallout: New Vegas, had fall release dates. Still, the most efficient way of determining a possible release date for Avowed is to examine Obsidian's partnership with Xbox Game Studios, as well as the developer's plans for The Outer Worlds 2.

How The Outer Worlds 2 Provides a Possible Release Date for Obsidian and Xbox's Avowed

Obsidian began its partnership with Xbox Game Studios in 2022 with the release of its hit survival game Grounded​​​​​​, which was released in September of that year. The duo then released Pentiment just two months later and has since gone on to partner in the releases of both Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2. Despite Obsidian's unpredictable release history, the developer's partnership with Xbox provides a clear release window for Avowed.

Avowed has already been confirmed for release in 2024, whereas The Outer Worlds 2 has not. This means The Outer Worlds 2 probably won't be released until 2025, as Obsidian and Xbox are unlikely to have two major releases in the same year — especially after Pentiment so easily fell under the radar following the release of The Outer Worlds. Taking all of this into consideration, if Obsidian and Xbox keep up the tradition they began with The Outer Worlds and Grounded, Avowed will most likely be released in either September or October 2024.

Since no official release date for Avowed has been confirmed, only speculation is possible at this point. That being said, there seems to be enough evidence to indicate a fall 2024 release window for Obsidian's upcoming role-playing game. At the very least, fans will likely receive an update on the game's progress this spring, so they should keep their ears to the ground in anticipation.
