Obsidian Entertainment may have accidentally leaked the Avowed release date. The company's mishap indicates that Avowed will hit the market on November 12, 2024.

July 23 will mark the third anniversary of the Avowed announcement. But the open-world RPG has been in the works for much longer than that, with Obsidian previously revealing that the project started active development circa late 2018, following around a year's worth of pre-production. While Obsidian has long billed Avowed as a 2024 title, the studio has yet to officially commit to a concrete release date.

Recent reports indicate that Obsidian Entertainment's next RPG Avowed is getting help from a major Xbox studio before its release.

New Leak Suggests Avowed Hasn't Been Delayed

But the game's release date may have just leaked online, courtesy of Obsidian itself. The mishap coincided with the new Avowed story trailer debuting at the latest Xbox Games Showcase. Immediately after the video went live during the June 9 event, the studio published a blog post reflecting on the promo. Aside from some statements from the development team, the article included a casual mention of the game's apparent release date, November 12. The tidbit of info was spotted by Twitter user Wario64 and subsequently started making the rounds of social media before Obsidian removed it from the post.

Even though this apparent release date isn't exactly official just yet, its premature reveal does suggest that Avowed will manage to hit its 2024 launch window. While Obsidian repeatedly maintained that the game is on course to debut this fall, the fact that it's still without an official release date has recently given rise to some fan speculation about a potential delay being on the cards, which now appears less likely following this leak.

But even if the mishap never happened, Avowed lacking a release date mere months ahead of its planned debut wouldn't necessarily have been a cause for concern, not least because Obsidian has lately only been committing to such announcements once its games were effectively done. E.g., the critically-acclaimed adventure Pentiment received a release date some ten weeks ahead of its November 2022 launch, while Grounded's September 2022 debut was communicated less than two months in advance.

Assuming the company's next game continues that pattern and manages to hit its planned launch window, Avowed fans can expect its release date announcement to arrive between July and October, depending on whether Obsidian plans to launch it near the beginning or end of fall 2024. In the meantime, the developer just shared a 27-minute deep dive into the RPG's gameplay and development, which debuted alongside its Xbox Games Showcase story trailer.
