Avengers: Endgame provided closure for fan favorite characters like Iron Man and Captain America, and it seems like the movie was also able to accurately predict Fortnite’s status in 2023. Specifically, Thor was seen playing the original Fortnite map in the film, something that has turned out to be surprisingly accurate long after the film’s release.

Avengers: Endgame featured a five-year time skip for the MCU, allowing for the characters to truly miss those lost after Thanos’ snap in Avengers: Endgame. The snippets of life after the blip show Scott Lang reuniting with his older daughter, Clint Barton’s alter ego Ronin in action, and Thor of all people playing video games. After killing Thanos, Thor’s failure hits him hard, with the hero gaining a significant amount of weight and developing a video game addiction. His title of choice is Fortnite, with gameplay footage of the OG map momentarily seen in the blockbuster film.

Avengers: Endgame’s Use of Fortnite Was More Accurate Than Anyone Expected

While many enjoyed this nod to Fortnite thanks to the funny dialogue about Noobmaster69, others felt that the use of Fortnite instead of a classic singleplayer game could date the film slightly. After all, thanks to the time jump, the movie suggested that Fortnite would still be a hugely popular game in 2023 - something that seemed a bit less certain back in 2019. Additionally, even if Fortnite were to continue being a big success for years, its regular map changes meant that the scene would still be a bit dated. Funnily enough, though, the return of Fortnite’s original map means that everything about the moment holds up.

Highlighted in a Reddit post from Dorian_The_Glorian, the exact location featured in the film was Salty Springs - a popular area from Fortnite’s original map. While there is a slight addition made in the new version, that being a reboot van, the images line up remarkably well. While the Fortnite gameplay could have been justified anyway, as half of the developers across the world would have been snapped, making updates and new game releases less common, it is quite funny that Avengers: Endgame stumbled into complete accuracy with its Fortnite scene.

The return of Fortnite’s original map has proven to be a massive success for Epic Games. 3 million players have returned to the battle royale title since the map was revived, with it being safe to assume that most are nostalgic fans - though some newcomers are likely looking to try the map that led to Fortnite’s boom in popularity as well. With Epic Games supposedly having big plans for updates to the original Fortnite map, there should be plenty for fans to look forward to.

For fans of Avengers: Endgame, not only is there plenty of Marvel content inside Fortnite, but there are two upcoming Avengers movies in the works. With Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars being years away, though, returning to areas like Salty Springs could be a good way to kill some time.
