8 Saddest Deaths In Avatar: The Last Airbender

Even though it's a children's show, Avatar: The Last Airbender didn't shy away from the topic of death.

One of the main characters, Sokka, is a bratty and self-centered individual who aids his sister, Katara, and the last Airbender, Aang, in his quest to stop the fire nation. Along the way, Sokka goes through a dramatic character development thanks to the multitude of friends he makes on his journey, changing his ways for the better.

8 Princess Yue

From Princess To The Moon

Yue in Avatar the Last Airbender

Sokka first meets Princess Yue of the Northern Water Tribe when visiting their dominion. Upon just a glance, Sokka had fallen in love with Yue, with the pair getting very close in only a few moments together. Unfortunately, despite harboring romantic thoughts similar to Sokka's, Yue was betrothed to another, meaning their relationship could not go any further.

When the moon spirit, Tui, is killed by Admiral Zhao, Yue sacrifices herself to become the moon for Waterbending to continue. Even after Yue's transformation, Sokka still harbors feelings for her despite his other romantic relationships.

7 Momo

Aang's Trusty Companion

Momo in Avatar the Last Airbender

When Momo joins Team Avatar, Sokka initially views Momo as a form of food rather than a friend. However, as the pair spend more time together, their relationship develops into a great friendship. Even when the pair bicker or Sokka makes jokes at Momo's expense, Sokka still cares deeply for the winged lemur.

Sokka's feelings for his friend show when Aang and Momo both disappear, leading to Sokka showing more concern for Momo's safety than Aang's. As part of Team Avatar, Sokka and Momo make up part of the group, which comes together to form a newfound family that shares a special bond due to their travels together.

6 Zuko

From Foe To Friend

Zuko in Avatar the Last Airbender

At the start of the show, Zuko is established as the main villain who opposes Team Avatar, although as time passes, Zuko ends up being a friend to the group and Sokka in particular. As the son of Fire Lord Ozai, Zuko is shunned, leading to Zuko trying to find the Avatar to gain favor with his father. When Zuko continually fails to capture Aang, he reevaluates his life, leading him to join Team Avatar alongside Sokka.

Once Sokka trusts and believes in Appa, the pair become very close as they help Aang on his path to face Lord Ozai.

When Appa is lost out in the desert, Sokka, like other Team Avatar members, is incredibly worried about their companion. When Appa returns, Sokka is very gracious and relieved to have Appa back.

Sokka's Love Interest
