Highlights

  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is coming to Steam on June 17, making it more accessible to fans who prefer Valve's storefront.
  • Developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft, the game allows players to explore Pandora as a Na'vi character.
  • Ubisoft is expanding its reach by bringing Avatar and other exclusive titles to Steam, a move that has fans excited for the future.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is getting a release on Steam. The title was previously only available via console or Ubisoft's store, but fans of the game unwilling to deal with the exclusivity will soon be able to grab Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on Valve's storefront later this year.

Based on the best-selling film universe created by James Cameron, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a first-person action-adventure that puts players into the heart of Pandora by playing as one of the Na'vi, eight years before the events of the first film. As for Ubisoft itself, this is not the first title it has brought away from its store, as another 2023 release, Valiant Hearts: Coming Home, was also brought to Steam earlier this year. Ubisoft has a history of keeping its games locked to its own store, but in more recent years it has transitioned its titles onto Steam, with the latest example being Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

Steam Reportedly Working on Major New Feature

A notable dataminer claims Steam is working hard on a highly anticipated major feature that's long been requested by players.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora now has a Steam page dedicated to it, and is set to launch on the platform on June 17. This comes less than six months after the game's initial launch in late 2023. Fans will be able to purchase the base game or load up on extra content and features with the Deluxe, Gold, or Ultimate Edition, granting them access to extra cosmetics and story DLC should they wish. The Skybreaker is the first of these story DLCs and is set to launch in Summer 2024, just in time for the Steam launch of the game. The base game for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has a resting price of $69.99, and fans can assume it will transition onto Steam with a similar price once it becomes available for purchase.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is Launching on Steam Later this Month

  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Steam release date: June 17

Ubisoft titles skipping the Steam storefront isn't surprising, given that Avatar wasn't the only title last year that didn't release on the platform. The most recent entry into the Assassin's Creed franchise, Assassin's Creed Mirage, is still a Ubisoft exclusive, much to the disappointment of fans.

The release of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora to Steam continues a trend of Ubisoft cutting back on its exclusive launch titles, leaving many optimistic about the future. Whether for consoles or digital storefronts, video game exclusivity has been a point of contention in the gaming industry over the past several years, and it's refreshing to see Ubisoft open up to making their games more accessible to fans.
