About Rachael Phillips

I'm a University of Lincoln graduate and Writer on Game ZXC! During my time at uni I was able to research and write my dissertation on psychological horror video games - Outlast, P.T. Demo, Doki Doki Literature Club are all super interesting in terms of how they generate fear via body horror, narrative style, and design. The relationship between the game and the gamer is something that really interests me, especially the way that games address and reflect real world issues.
I also love horror films; I was raised on 80s slashers, creepypasta, and urban legends, so it's no surprise that Halloween is my favourite holiday.
My proudest gaming achievement is getting 100% on Assassins Creed 2, it was the first game I ever fully completed. My next goal is to finally 100% One on expert difficulty on Guitar Hero 3 - I refuse to believe it's impossible without double tap!

Favorite Games

My favourite game has to be Skyrim - I went from watching my older brother play to playing it myself and it never seems to get old. A close runner up is Assassins Creed but I also have an affinity for horror games (particularly Outlast). Of course Minecraft and Mario Kart go without saying.

Favorite Movies

My favourite movie is The Lost Boys, well dressed vampires and the beach? What more could you want! 70s/80s horror films in general are my jam, but Sinister deserves an honourable mention. Despite this I'm not adverse to a romcom or a Dreamworks film every now and then!

Favorite Console

My favourite consoles are the PS1/PS2, perhaps not performance-wise but definitely nostalgia-wise; I have fond memories of playing Xena Warrior Princess and Spyro and I love the potatoey aesthetic! Since then I've jumped to XBox 360 and PS4, as well as dabbling in the PC world (I still favour controller over mouse and keyboard though).
