Not many shonen series come close to Attack on Titan in terms of deaths and gore. From the very beginning of the first season, when Carla Jeager was eaten alive by a Titan, it was obvious that there wouldn't be much difference in the rest of the series moving forward.

Attack on Titan fans have seen all kinds of deaths, including Titans eating humans, Titans eating each other, and humans killing each other. There are many characters in the series who have absolutely no moral principles at all. They murder and destroy everything in their path, and they don't feel any kind of regret or remorse. This ruthlessness makes them the most evil characters in Attack on Titan.

Updated on April 23rd, 2023, by Suzail Ahmad: Attack on Titan is an anime series where morality is the last thing that characters are concerned about. The people in the Attack on Titan world live in constant fear of being killed, so it's not surprising to see them ditch their morals to survive. However, there are certain characters who take things to the next level and openly cause problems for other people. These characters are purely evil, and they will do anything to make sure that things go according to their plans. In Attack on Titan, being evil is not just limited to the villains; in fact, there are many heroes who have betrayed the trust of their comrades. So, it begs the question of who is the most evil AOT villain.

14 Ymir

Ymir as a kid

Ymir was the first human being to gain the powers of the Titans. After King Fritz found out about her power, he abused her both physically and mentally. He cut off her tongue and even chased her through the forest. Once he captured her, she was forced to bear his children. Throughout her life, Ymir was forced to defend him and carry out his orders.

There is no doubt that Ymir suffered a lot, and it might feel ridiculous to think of her as evil. But she did make a lot of questionable choices. She could simply have killed Fritz and ended his reign. But she didn't do it because she loved him, which caused thousands of years of misery for people throughout the world.

13 Magath

Magath-death

Magath was the general of the Marleyan military. He strongly believed in being a dutiful soldier who carried out his mission without fail. Magath was promoted to the position of general after his impressive victories and some help from Willy Tybur.

Magath was also an ardent believer in the racist philosophy of the Marleyans, who believed that they were superior to the Eldians. As the person in charge of soldiers, Magath would often send hundreds of Eldians to their deaths just to save the Marleyan soldiers. This was proof of his prejudice toward the Eldians, and there is no telling how many of them suffered because of him.

12 Karl Fritz

Karl Fritz was the ruler of Eldia and was burdened with an immense amount of guilt. He was ashamed of the atrocities committed by Eldia in the past, and he wanted to do something that would set things right. Eventually, he concocted a plan with the Tybur family and purposely weakened the Eldian Empire. This resulted in Marley taking over power and the Eldians being forced to move to Paradis Island.

One might think that Karl Fritz had the best interests of the Eldians at heart, but the reality was that he took a selfish decision that resulted in a war that would last for years. He made the choice for all the Eldians, and it brought them nothing but misery. The consequences of Karl Fritz's choices were dire, and Eldians had to face countless years of discrimination even after his death.

11 Gross

Gross in Attack on Titan

Gross was a member of the Public Security Authorities. He was a sergeant major, which meant that he had a good deal of authority. Gross was known for being an extremely sadistic individual who enjoyed torturing innocent people. Gross sternly believed that all Eldians should be killed, and the world would be a better place without them.

Gross would often torture people because of his racist beliefs. He even killed a young girl just because she was an Eldian. Gross believed that humans fighting one another was the highest form of entertainment. A person like Gross absolutely deserved his comeuppance.

10 Bertholdt

Bertholdt from Attack on Titan

He came to Paradis Island along with Reiner, Marcel, and Annie. As a warrior of Marley, Bertholdt was a talented fighter, and because of his abilities, he managed to graduate as the third-highest-ranked cadet in the 104th Cadet Corps.

Bertholdt possessed the power of the Colossal Titan, which made him very dangerous. With just a single attack, Bertholdt could cause widespread destruction. Despite knowing that his actions would result in the deaths of hundreds of people, Bertholdt continued to destroy the walls that kept Paradis Island safe from harm. He also broke the trust of all the people with whom he had formed friendships, which is unforgivable.

As the commander of the Survey Corps, Erwin had power over the lives of all the soldiers of the Survey Corps. Throughout his life, Erwin made many questionable decisions, which led to multiple casualties. Erwin had absolutely no problem with sending his men out to die, as he believed that their deaths would benefit humanity in the long run. He achieved this feat mainly through his speeches.

8 Eren's Friends

armin about shift into a titan

It was surprising to see Eren turn into a monster, who eventually destroyed more than half of the world's population, but what was even more astonishing was seeing Eren's friends not doing anything to prevent Eren from wreaking havoc throughout the world.

Armin, who always came off as a kind-hearted individual, followed Eren's orders and invaded Marley with the rest of the members of the Survey Corps. Armin transformed into the Colossal Titan, which resulted in the deaths of many innocent Marley civilians. Mikasa also stayed by Eren's side and tried to protect him from any possible harm. Connie kidnapped Falco and wanted to feed him to his mother. Almost all of Eren's friends made questionable decisions, but their biggest blunder was letting Eren do what he wanted and not stopping him.

7 Kenny Ackerman

Kenny is Levi's uncle and is preceded by his notorious reputation. He was an infamous serial killer who would brutally murder people without a second thought. Kenny had no qualms about killing people, and he continued to do so until he met Uri Reiss.

Kenny's meeting with Uri changed him to a certain extent, but it didn't take too long for his inner desire to once again take hold. Kenny became thirsty for the power that the Reiss family had. In order to accomplish his goals, Kenny was willing to betray his allies and even murder children.

6 Reiner Braun

Reiner and Bertholdt transforming in Attack on Titan

When Reiner was introduced to the series, nobody would have believed that he was a warrior sent by the Marley to destroy Paradis Island. While not necessarily evil, Reiner isn't exactly innocent either. He joined the Survey Corps and became friends with Eren and co and even helped them on numerous occasions. All of that proved to be a farce, though, when he captured Eren and decided to take him back to Marley.

Since Reiner was the Armored Titan, he had a lot more strength than ordinary Titans, and it allowed him to destroy the walls that protected the residents inside with ease. When Reiner broke the walls, it resulted in the deaths of countless people, including Eren's mother.

5 Rod Reiss

Ros Reiss with Historia

Like most of the members of the Reiss bloodline, Rod was a twisted individual. He was the father of Historia Reiss, and he wanted to turn Historia into a Titan so that she would inherit the power of the Founding Titan. Rod Reiss claimed that he cared about his daughter, but this couldn't be further from the truth.

Rod's only goal was for Historia to gain the power of the Founding Titan, which would make the Reiss family powerful. However, Historia declined to go along with his plan and threw away the Titan serum, which broke and fell on the floor. Rod Reiss was enraged that his daughter disobeyed him and began to lick the Titan serum off the floor himself.

4 Floch

Floch smiling maliciously

Floch was originally just a coward who ended up participating in the battle of Shiganshina. After miraculously surviving, he became a different man. Floch grew more open to violence, and he even joined the Jeagerists. Floch's change in attitude made him one of the most hated characters in the series.

Floch ordered the other scouts to beat Keith up because the latter did not agree with Eren's way of handling things. Floch also became more hostile towards the people living outside the walls and was a firm supporter of Eren's plan to change the world.

3 Zeke

attack on titan anime zeke

Zeke is Grisha Jeager's son, and Grisha had big plans for him at one point. However, Zeke betrayed his parents and became a warrior for Marley. He had the power of the Beast Titan, and he used it to slaughter many innocent people. He was responsible for the deaths of many Survey Corps members in the Shiganshina arc alone.

Zeke is incredibly clever and devised a strategy to eradicate the Eldians without using excessive force. Zeke wanted to use the power of the Founding Titan to sterilize the entire Eldian race. To achieve his goal, he was ready to betray everyone, including his comrades who had served alongside him in battle for years.

2 King Fritz

King Fritz from Attack on Titan

King Fritz ruled over Eldia over 2000 years ago. He is responsible for starting a cruel cycle that would result in the deaths of countless people. After finding out about Ymir and her Titan powers, Fritz decided to use her to increase the power of the Eldian Empire. Fritz had three daughters with Ymir, and after her death, he forcibly made his daughters eat their mother's corpse.

It is unthinkable to make somebody commit such a heinous act just to preserve the power of Ymir. As he neared his own death, Fritz commanded his daughters to keep reproducing and eating each other, showing that he had zero regard for his people or his family. He merely viewed them as tools to rule over the world.

1 Eren

Attack on Titan Eren After Escaping From The Military Police

While Eren might be the main protagonist of the series, he doesn't meet the typical hero criteria. This wasn't always the case, though, as when Eren first joined the Survey Corps, he was devoted to protecting the people inside the walls from the Titans. However, as the series progressed, Eren gradually turned into an incredibly wicked person.

Erem was responsible for coming up with a sick and sordid plan to "help" the world, which ultimately resulted in a complete disaster. After starting the Rumbling, Eren and his army of Titans exterminated 80% of the world's entire population. With this in mind, it seems fair to say that Eren is easily the most evil character in the entire AttackonTitan series.
