Fans have thoroughly enjoyed the run that the story has gone on and it wouldn't be a stretch to say that this is one of the few anime that could be considered a masterpiece, both quality and consistency-wise.

Attack on Titan is an incredible journey of Eren who goes on to find against the Titans very early in the story. Eren's journey is quite long and, thus, the story spans over several arcs, some of which are certainly superior to the others.

7 Battle of Trost District

The Battle of Trost District is the second arc of Attack on Titan. While it certainly packs a punch when it comes to intensity, it is lacking in the story department. This arc takes place when the students of the 104th Cadet Corps take on the Armored and the Colossal Titan in a fight.

This is where Eren learns that he has special powers within him and the story builds heavily on this. This is a great setup arc but, as a standalone one, it doesn't shine as much as the others.

6 Royal Government Arc

The Royal Government Arc is slightly different when compared to the other arcs in Attack on Titan. This one involves a lot more politics than the vast majority of the arcs, yet, Isayama makes it so that it becomes incredibly enjoyable to go through. It is during this arc that Erwin Smith plans to overthrow the entire Government.

Eren and Historia are revealed to be of paramount importance and their kidnappings are attempted.

This arc sees the bonds of families being explored in great depth and, even though it is not the most incredible of arcs in the story, fans certainly enjoy it nonetheless.

5 Clash Of The Titans Arc

Reiner and Bertholdt transforming in Attack on Titan

The Clash of the Titans arc is, quite possibly, the arc with the biggest twists in the story. The arc begins when Wall Rose is suddenly breached and Titans appear out of nowhere. Immediately after, the Survey Corps are thrown into battle and it doesn't take them long to realize that the threat that they face is actually from within their own group.

Along with Annie, who was previously captured, they realized that there is more than just one infiltrator. Later on, Bertholdt and Reiner reveal themselves to be Colossal Titan and the Armored Titan respectively. This starts the Clash of the Titans. The Beast Titan also makes an appearance in this arc and the story only gets more gripping after his appearance.

4 The Female Titan Arc

Female Titan vs Levi Squad in Attack on Titan

The female Titan arc is where the story starts getting more interesting. After finishing their training as members of the 104th Cadet Corps, the protagonists of the series are then assigned under Levi Ackerman. Levi is hyped up to be an incredibly powerful fighter and when the group goes on an expedition beyond the walls, things start going awry.

The Female Titan appears and attacks them and from there onwards, the story focuses on finding out the identity of the Female Titan and ways to defeat her. Later on, it is revealed in a shocking turn of events that the Female Titan was none other than one of their comrades, Annie.

3 Marley Arc

Eren breaks through the building above Willy

The Marley Arc starts the second half of the story where the entire world of Attack on Titan is finally revealed to the fans. Things finally go beyond just Paradis, which was earlier believed to be the entirety of the world. Across the sea, the Empire of Marley is explored in great depth. It is revealed that they hold the power of several Titans, however, they come to the realization that this power is now obsolete.

To make themselves a bigger superpower, they need the Founding Titan, which rests with Eren. As such, plans to attack paradise once again begin with Reiner being one of the key members of the operation. At the same time, the Survey Corps don't sit quietly either. Eren launches an attack on Liberio and the protagonist of the story gives his war cry there and then fights, leading the story into its final arc.

2 War For Paradis Arc

Shortly after Eren's attack on Liberio where he declares war on them, there is mischief within the people of Paradis itself. A new faction emerges which plans to install Eren as the leader of the new Eldian Empire. At the same time, the people of Marley now begin their mission to gain the power of the Founding Titan by infiltrating Paradis.

This arc is also where Eren shows his conviction and activates the Rumbling, destroying the vast majority of the human race. Eventually, it is revealed that Eren only wanted his friends to be seen as saviors of the world. This arc is, by far, the most important one in Attack on Titan as the entire fate of the Eldians on Paradis and the entire world is decided. It certainly splits opinion, however, the author's dedication to it certainly cannot be questioned.

1 Return To Shiganshina Arc

By far, the best arc in the story is still Return to Shiganshina. After studying the Titans, Hange and the group decide to make use of them and retake old territories that they lost once the walls fell. With Eren at the core of her plans, the group sets out to retake what was once theirs. Shiganshina was once their home and this place bring out painful memories for them. What's worse, their enemies that were once their friends are waiting for them there and, at their side is the Beast Titan as well.

This arc is full of incredible twists and turns and, at the same time, conveys the message of sacrifice, as well as passing on the torch to the next generation. It also has incredible combat between Levi and the Beast Titan. Later on, the secrets in Eren's basement that were written by Grisha are finally revealed to the fans.
