AttackonTitan is among the most popular shonen anime of all time. The series by Hajime Isayama has garnered many plaudits over the years, which is mainly due to the incredible story and interesting characters.
It is one of the few anime that does not hold back when it comes to killing characters. Attack on Titan is responsible for many heartbreaks because there is simply a huge number of characters that have died in the series. While the death of these characters was pivotal to the story, there are few individuals who were either killed off quickly or otherwise got a bad ending.

8 Erwin Smith
Erwin Smith was the commander of the Survey Corps. He was an outstanding leader and speaker, who was able to raise the morale of his soldiers even when they were facing certain death. Under Erwin's leadership, the Scouting Legion managed to accomplish many things.
However, his life came to an end during the Battle of Shiganshina, where he led his troops against the Beast Titan to provide a chance for Levi to kill the enemy. This strategy cost Erwin his life and he died without ever knowing about the mysteries that were inside the basement of Eren Yeager.
7 Levi Ackerman
Labeled "Humanity's Strongest Soldier," Levi Ackerman is a member of the Survey Corps. He suffered from a traumatic childhood and he had to struggle a lot in order to become strong. Soon after joining the Survey Corps, Levi Ackerman made a name for himself.
Over years, his reputation only increased and he became the best Titan killer on Paradis Island. Towards the end of the series, Levi was reduced to moving around in a wheelchair. He had to be taken care of, which is simply heartbreaking considering that he used to be the mightiest warrior in the series.
6 Carla Yeager
She was the second wife of Grisha Yeager. Carla had her own unique way of looking at life; she was content with the simple things that she had. Carla was extremely caring and she was not afraid to advise her family members and her friends against any dangerous decisions.
She was selfless and she always prioritized the welfare of others before her own. Carla tried to raise Eren as best as she could, which shows that she was an excellent mother. Carla was killed by a Titan, who was actually Grisha's first wife. She clearly deserved a better fate than ending up as Titan food.
5 Sasha
Sasha was a member of the Survey Corps and she was nicknamed by her friends as "Potato Girl." They gave her the nickname because she was known for stealing food from kitchens and stores. Sasha was known for being voracious, which her friends found adorable.
Sasha's abilities as a soldier were not bad at all. She was a talented fighter, who aided her comrades on numerous occasions. Sasha's death was saddening as she was killed by Gabi, who shot her in the chest.
4 Levi's Squad
Levi's Squad was introduced during the very first season of AttackonTitan. The squad was comprised of talented fighters and they were led by Levi. They had a kill record that exceeded 200, which shows their fighting capabilities. With such an immaculate record, the squad was considered capable enough of taking down any Titan.
Levi's Squad had the mission to save Eren Yeager, but it evolved into another objective, which was to lure the Female Titan. However, they failed to complete their objective and all the members excluding Levi were slaughtered.
3 Ymir
Life was not kind to Ymir. She roamed the streets of Marley as a beggar until she was finally found by a man, who gave her the name Ymir and introduced her to a group who considered her to be the reincarnation of their ancestor.
Soon, the location was found by the Marleyan authorities, who captured Ymir and turned her into a Titan. Ymir's life only became better when she devoured Marcel, and she managed to revert to her human part. Later on, Ymir willingly let herself be killed and she was separated from Historia.
2 Hannes
Hannes was a member of the Garrison and he was a close friend of the Yeager family. Despite his cowardice, Hannes displayed courage occasionally. Hannes had immense guilt for being unable to save Carla Yeager from being eaten.
Hannes met his end during the Clash of the Titans arc, where he found the Titan that had killed Carla. He thought of it as an opportunity to avenge her and so Hannes decided to be brave and attack the Titan, however, it ended in a complete disaster as he was eaten by the Titan.
1 Mikasa Ackerman
Mikasa Ackerman is among the main characters in the series. She was the most talented fighter in the Survey Corps after Levi. Mikasa always believed in Eren and she did her best to save his life. Throughout the series, Mikasa chose Eren over the rest of the people.
Many fans believed that after putting in so much effort, Mikasa would have some kind of future with Eren, but that wasn't the case. She lost Eren and had to deal with the pain of living without him.
