Despite having not received a firm release date, Atomic Heart remains a highly-anticipated upcoming release for many, with Mundfish's mind-bending sci-fi horror shaping up to be a unique and thoroughly creepy experience. Although the team isn't quite ready to tell players when it will be hitting shelves, it has revealed an array of features set to hit the title, most recently through a new and shockingly detailed photo mode.

Showcased via a trailer on the game's official YouTube channel, Atomic Heart's take on photo mode looks to be one of the most comprehensive the medium's seen to date. Touting 4K visuals and an array of minute details, the short promo displays exactly what Mundfish's enhanced photo mode is capable of, boasting "in-game realtime" footage.

The trailer begins with a magnified shot of Atomic Heart protagonist P-3's face, showing everything from his pores to the faint stubble forming on his chin. The camera slowly pans out, highlighting the reflections in his eyes and the intricate details of his teeth, suggesting that players will be able to grab insanely life-like captures while playing the game. The shot eventually reveals that P-3 is battling an equally detailed robotic enemy. It appears players will have free reign to move around scenes and capture what they please, whether that's the playable protagonist or one of his many intimidating opponents.

To prove how much freedom players will have, the trailer takes the camera far away from the battlefield, focusing on a flying craft in the distance. It's here the footage concludes, promising that Atomic Heart's unique take on the horror genre will be available to those on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The photo mode is yet another reason to check out Mundfish's newest venture when it debuts in the future.

For those who haven't watched any of the title's unsettling trailers, Atomic Heart takes place in an alternate universe 1950s Soviet Union that's already discovered futuristic technology. The game focuses on a KGB agent known as P-3, who must venture to a secret Soviet facility after its robotic inhabitants go haywire and turn against their human overseers. Along the way, it seems players will discover hidden secrets about the facility and the experiments contained within, as P-3 is forced to battle against zombified humans, flesh-hungry monsters, and plenty of relentless robotic foes. The game was first teased back in 2017 and has since amassed a cult following, with fans coming to love its cryptic trailers and distinct aesthetic.

Atomic Heart is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
