Atlas Fallen is an upcoming action RPG game being developed by Deck13, the creators of The Surge series and Lords of the Fallen. It is set in a world dominated by sand, and said world's inhabitants have gained the ability to shape that sand into different weapons and tools. Atlas Fallen will throw players into this world, equipping them with shape-shifting weapons to combat the growing threat of monsters as they uncover the mysteries that are hidden within the sands.

Atlas Fallen’s gameplay trailer showed players how its combat would look like with the game providing three types of weapons, all made from sand. The shape-shifting ability to switch between these weapons opens the possibility of including some exciting combos and even unique advantages and disadvantages for each weapon. With players encouraged to play with others, Atlas Fallen has set itself to become a highly anticipated game as fans are eager to explore the sands of the ancient world.

Atlas Fallen's Three Weapons

According to the trailers of Atlas Fallen that were shown, players will seemingly have access to three different types of weapons, each of which is created using the surrounding sand. These weapons are the sword, the axe, and the whip, and they each seem to have their own uses and strategies while wielding them. The whip, for example, seems to be the best choice for taking on multiple enemies at once, allowing players to swing it around and deal damage in all directions.

The axe seems to be the heavy weapon available to players, allowing them to deal large amounts of damage but at a slower speed. The sword, on the other hand, seems to be the primary weapon that has balanced damage and speed and is likely the weapon that players will most often use. Fans also got to see one of the characters use what looked like a special skill involving the axe that sees them leap into the air and slam the weapon into one of the sand beasts they were fighting.

Different Weapons for Different Situations

Giving players access to three weapons means that there are likely going to be situations where certain weapons are more effective than others. This has been used extremely well in the God of War series, particularly the Norse saga, where certain enemies take decreased damage from some of Kratos’ weapons. In the same way, enemies in Atlas Fallen could be weaker against one of the three weapon types, encouraging players to learn about the world and the beings that make it up.

With Atlas Fallen being a semi-open world game, there is also a possibility that weapons, especially the whip, can be used to get around the world. The trailer showed that players will be able to move quickly through the sand, but in the case of vertical movement, the player may need some other way to get around. Finally, having three weapons means that players could be able to switch quickly between the weapons, combining them into lethal combos that devastate enemies.

Atlas Fallen’s weapons and combat will make or break the game, and as players ready themselves to explore the sand of this ancient world, Deck13 will need to make sure that the three weapons are fun and versatile. Whether players will have access to all three weapons at all times, or whether they have to pick a single weapon type at the start of the game has not yet been confirmed, however, if it does not, then multiplayer will likely become even more important for players trying to finish the game. Atlas Fallen will likely have more reveals before its final release and players will be excited to see what the world and Deck13 have in store.

Atlas Fallen is set to release in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
