Key specifications of ASUS ROG Ally X have leaked and shed light on the kind of experience fans may expect from the handheld gaming PC. Being the successor to last year's ASUS ROG Ally, the ROG Ally X seems to have significantly improved upon the hardware of its predecessor.

Following months of rumors about the next ROG Ally, ASUS finally put all the speculations to rest earlier this month when it confirmed the ROG Ally X. During the official stream, the company only teased a few areas in which the forthcoming handheld will outperform the original ROG Ally, without talking about any specs. However, it was confirmed that ROG Ally X won't be an outright successor to the ROG Ally but more of an incremental upgrade---similar to how Steam Deck OLED compares to the original Steam Deck.

As claimed by VideoCardz, the official specs of ASUS ROG Ally X are out ahead of the showcase event on June 2. Apart from ditching the white chassis for a black one, there are several significant changes on the inside as well. According to the source, the new handheld gaming PC features double the battery capacity, at 80Wh, compared to the original ROG Ally's 40Wh battery. While keeping the same Ryzen Z1 Extreme chipset, the Ally X boasts a comparatively larger and faster memory with 24GB LPDDR5 RAM, clocked at 7500MHz. The original Ally came with 16GB RAM with 6400MHz frequency. These key improvements are in line with ASUS' previous statements from around the time when ROG Ally X was first confirmed.

Apparently, the huge improvement in battery has translated into a beefier body, with the handheld device weighing in at 678g (70g heavier than the original Ally). The source mentions that the storage capacity in ROG Ally X is twice that available in the first Ally handheld at 1TB. Further, it adds that the new handheld supports a different SSD standard, M.2 NVMe 2280, compared to M.2 NVMe 2230 in ROG Ally. As per the leak, the external GPU port has also been replaced with the USB-C 4.0 port, which supports both external GPUs and charging. Interestingly, the display on the new Ally X will reportedly be the same as the original. The noteworthy bump in hardware specs is likely to reignite the comparisons between ROG Ally and Steam Deck.

To tackle heating, the report states that ASUS has opted for a fan that is 23% smaller and has 50% thinner fins compared to the original, making the most of the 10% improvement in airflow. In addition to everything, the handheld console is reported to pack a "Precision D-Pad," which is suitable for 5 million cycles. Finally, the source suggests that the ROG Ally X could also make an appearance at Computex, scheduled from June 4 to June 7. By that time, the price of the new Ally console, rumored to be $799, may also be officially out. As ASUS eventually moves on to its next handheld, fans may expect the original ROG Ally consoles to get attractive discounts.
