Team Asobi creative director Nicholas Doucet recently commented on the possibility of future games in the Astro Bot series, hinting that the franchise could potentially move away from a focus on PlayStation history. Fans were incredibly pleased with the initial trailer for the upcoming sequel to Astro's Playroom, with many happy to see all the PlayStation franchises represented in Astro Bot. However, Team Asobi is not ruling out the possibility of moving away from established PlayStation classics and instead focusing entirely on Astro himself.

First announced during the May 30 State of Play, Astro Bot is a new 3D platforming action-adventure game slated for release later this year. The game will feature the adorable robot Astro searching for his robot friends, called VIP Bots, while battling colorful enemies across expansive environments. Each of the missing VIP Bots represent classic PlayStation characters, such as Nathan Drake and Kratos, but future installments in the Astro series could potentially move away from using these familiar faces and names.

In a recent interview with VGC, Nicholas Doucet of Team Asobi hinted that future Astro games may focus more on Astro himself, rather than relying on established PlayStation franchises and familiar characters. Doucet commented on the flexibility of Astro as its own IP, which may allow the series to stand on its own without support from other PlayStation icons. He mentioned that Team Asobi feels "quite relaxed" about where the series could go in the future.
