Excitement for Assassin's Creed Valhalla has been building since it was officially announced earlier this year. Despite gameplay being suggested to be revealed at an Xbox Event and not been delivered, there has been a keen interest in the title. Fans have had to wait for an official Ubisoft announcement to see how the game works. The Ubisoft Forward event revealed exciting gameplay, but there have still been plenty of questions about the latest Assassin's Creed game, fortunately, the team behind the game have been answering lingering questions.

The Assassin's Creed franchise has explored a variety of locations in different historical periods and using its core mechanics it has managed to retain a large fan base. Many players were glad to see Assassin's Creed in a Viking setting, yet, as is the case with a great deal of the franchise, many of the mechanics from other iterations are being carried over in this game. This also seems to be the case with romantic entanglements in the game.

The narrative director for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Darby McDevitt, has discussed how romantic relationships work stating that much like Assassin's Creed Odyssey players will be able to have numerous romantic relationships as they play the game. McDevitt expanded on this stating, "There are definitely a couple of one-night stands you can get involved in and they're fun in their own ways, but there's also going to be some longer-term relationships. A little of both. If you want to be monogamous and have a single, ongoing relationship with somebody, you can do that." It seems that there are plenty of romantic options and it will be interesting to see how this impacts the greater narrative of the game and whether player decisions will alter the course of the story.

AC Valhalla will have multiple romances

The recently revealed gameplay video of Assassin's Creed Valhalla seemed to suggest that players can change the sex of Eivor at will and if the mechanic makes it to release it will be intriguing to see how this impacts relationships. There will undoubtedly be questions whether romantic partners will recognize the player if they are different sex, or at the very least whether they will comment on the difference. It seems that the freewill that players have in terms of romance may lead to unique situations for players to experience.

Many players will be happy if Assassin's Creed Valhalla manages to build on Odyssey as it was a genuinely well-received addition to the franchise. The teasers, trailers, and gameplay suggest that Assassin's Creed Valhalla has plenty of ideas of how to reinvigorate the long-standing franchise, even if romance remains largely the same as its predecessor. The majority of fans will be happy with this, although how the game implements all the mechanics will still be a point of questioning.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla releases November 17, 2020 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
