It wouldn’t be an Assassin’s Creed game if it didn’t leave fans with more questions than they had before starting their playthrough. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has continued this tradition, with many earlier plot points still unresolved and new ones being added to the list.

If there aren’t plot holes, there are mysteries that were opened up following the events of this game that need to be answered in the future. Finally, there are things that clash with established logic, leaving them as nonsensical points that can be seen as a mix of plot holes and mysteries. Here are the most striking of these points that are found in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

10 Desmond's Status As The Reader

Assassins Creed Valhalla Layla Meets The Reader

Layla found a being called the Reader after she was trapped inside the temple. It’s clear that this was supposed to be Desmond Miles, but just that revelation alone doesn’t cut it. After all, the game left everything else about him a mystery.

Stuff like what happened to Desmond after his supposed demise, how he functions as the Reader, the knowledge he has up to this point, among many other questions were all left hanging. Considering it took eight years for him to return, there’s a chance this cliffhanger might take just as long to be resolved.

9 Basim's Overall Plans

Assassins Creed Valhalla Picture Of Basim In The Codex

Basim was revealed to be the reincarnation of Loki, following which he tried to kill Eivor because she had mistreated Loki’s son Fenrir in her past life as Odin. In the future, Basim returned from the temple and used Eivor’s memories from the Animus in order to search for his children.

It was also shown that Aletheia was his lover and they’d planned all this out. Basim was one of the best characters from the game, but the hook of his and Alethia’s plans left more to be desired. It’s not clear what they plan on doing after getting their children, or if they have more malicious intentions like Juno once had.

8 Eivor's Role Of Settlement In Vinland

Those who noticed that Eivor’s remains were exhumed in North America have been the ones to ask the question of how she got there. Back when she arrived, it was known as Vinland, but the game doesn’t elaborate on her adventures there.

It’s accepted that Eivor traveled there at some point, created a settlement, before eventually dying of old age. This leaves a big gap in the plot, as Eivor’s motivations to travel to Vinland — along with hiding her presence there — aren’t told within the story.

7 Are All Legendary Beings Isu?

Back in the events of Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey, the protagonists could be used to fight legendary beings that are seen as gods in those mythologies. And yet, Valhalla brought the likes of Odin, Loki, Thor, and Tyr as Isu beings.

This has opened a huge mystery involving the First Civilization, in that if the Isu have always been beings from mythology. However, it also contradicts with the battles the previous protagonists had with legendary figures of other religions since these weren’t shown to be Isu.

Those that argue that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the worst in the series like to bring up the point that Eivor wasn’t even an actual assassin. She was only affiliated with the Hidden Ones and not a true initiate, making everything about her clash with what the series stands for.

Still, she did have an impact on the assassins in present-day, leaving it unclear what her exact link to the creed could have been. Her partnerships with the Hidden Ones implies she might have had more to do with them than let on, but this is unresolved for the moment.

5 How An Isu Can Have DNA

The Isu have so far been established as humanoid beings who were godlike in physiology and nature. If that’s the case, it doesn’t make much sense why a normal DNA check applies to an Isu like Odin. This was confirmed when Eivor’s memories were being accessed by the Animus.

The machine gave the choice between male and female Eivor because the heavy DNA of Odin — Eivor’s past life — confused the Animus to believe the canonically female Eivor could be male. Regardless, it’s hard to believe that an Isu could have DNA readings and how that goes about isn’t known.

4 Eivor's Logic Behind Having An Affair With Sigurd's Wife

Randvi

There were a bunch of facts about Vikings that the game got wrong, and don’t believe that having affairs with your brother’s spouse was acceptable back then either. For some reason, Eivor could be used to have a romance with Sigurd’s wife, with no repercussions from this.

It’s not known why or if Sigurd was cool with the idea of his sibling engaging in an affair with his own wife. Yet, the game presented a whole story where Randvi claimed she was truly in love with Eivor, with this treated like a minor plot rather than driving a wedge between Eivor and Sigurd. If there was an established agreement between them, it wasn’t shown during the game.

3 Exactly How Many Wars The Isu Had

Adam-And-Eve-Cropped-1

It’s been a long-running mistake of the series to leave vague clues that aren’t resolved. The Adam and Eve angle from Assassin’s Creed II remains known only through hints and Valhalla has now brought another side of the same story by showing the Isu having Ragnarok.

This means there was another war to go with the Human-Isu war that had been taking place when the first catastrophe struck. It’s never been confirmed as to how many of these wars happened, with Valhalla only furthering this mystery.

2 What Layla And Desmond's Plans Entail

Layla Assassin's Creed Valhalla Cropped

The ending of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla had Layla and Desmond decide to work together to stop the next catastrophe from striking. While this served as the exit of Layla as the protagonist, there’s nothing to suggest exactly how she and Desmond will accomplish their goals.

It’s hoped that this might be answered in the following DLC, but as of yet remains an unanswered aspect from the game. There were hints and clues over how this could be done, but the actual route taken by Layla and Desmond is unclear.

1 If There Ever Is A Way To Stop All The Catastrophes

There are several things you didn’t know you could do in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but it’s starting to look like stopping the Earth from being destroyed is something that can’t be done. After all, the story brought another angle about a future catastrophe, this time surrounding the Earth’s magnetic field that’s gotten too unstable.

It begs the question if it’s possible at all to control the Earth and keep it safe, seeing as a new catastrophe strikes each time the old one is averted. It was also stated by Minerva in Assassin’s Creed III that the Earth had been secured by Desmond, leaving it a plot hole over why another disaster has come up so soon.
