Photo mode has become a mainstay in the video game industry over recent years, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the latest game to include it. The studio announced the feature yesterday, including four Assassin’s Creed Valhalla images that were heavily edited using the photo mode that will be available from day one.
Photo mode will be returning to the series after its previous appearances in Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and the images shown within the announcement tweet give players an idea of some features they will be able to mess with. As shown in the photos, players will have 8 filters to choose from as they explore AC Valhalla’s historic viking locations. Depth of Field, exposure, fog, and all the usual bells and whistles of a photo mode are present as well.
While Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s version will likely not be as deep as the Ghost of Tsushima photo mode at launch, it could very easily become as expansive due to Ubisoft’s plans to expand on the feature. According to the company, players “can expect ongoing enhancements and added features throughout its lifetime.” How long that lifetime is remains unclear as of now, though the extensive post-launch plans Ubisoft has laid out for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla implies that the game will be support for quite some time.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s season pass will be full of diverse expansions and missions, from a druid cult to a mission focused on the legendary figure Beowulf. The DLC’s siege of Paris, which is based on a major historical event, should provide players with plenty of photo-taking moments. Features that do not appear to be there as of now, such as options to change the face and pose of Eivor, could very easily be what Ubisoft is planning to add to the Viking-themed Assassin’s Creed title.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla players will have plenty of skins and cosmetics to choose from when the latest game in the series arrives, all of which should lead to great photo opportunities. From Tattoo packs to Bayek’s costume, as well as mythological skin packs that pull from Norse Mythology such as Draugr and Valkyrie packs, players will be able to take wildly diverse sets of photos when the game releases. With the game set to let players travel to Asgard and Jotunheim, the screenshot opportunities only increase further.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will not be the only November release with a photo mode, as Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls will feature photo mode options as well. With Cyberpunk 2077 possibly getting a mode like this as well, it is very clear that gamers want this option as often as possible in singleplayer games going forward.
