Excitement is boiling over as more details surrounding Assassin's Creed Valhalla are revealed. So far this week, the cinematic trailer has been released along with a ton of information about the new title. The protagonist's name has also been revealed to be Eivor, but players will be given a choice whether Eivor will be male or female.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla will put players in the boots of a Viking as a fight for land in Europe. In Assassin's Creed Odyssey, players also choose the main character's gender. However, in Odyssey, the other gender is made into an NPC in the same story. In Valhalla, many wonder if the unpicked gender becomes an NPC as well. Based on both protagonists being referred to as Eivor, it seems like only one will exist in the events of Valhalla.

Despite the gender choice in Assassins' Creed Odyssey, the female protagonist, Kassandra, is the only canon character because she is the protagonist in the novel. Now, many question which character will be canon in Valhalla. Luckily, narrative director, Darby McDevitt, shed some light on the question on Twitter. McDevitt indicates that both options are canon, but how will only revealed in the game. Based on McDevitt's response, there seems to be a clever surprise waiting for players in the story.

Both the male and female protagonists have been featured in details emerging about the game. Both voice actors have been revealed and both genders are seen in different marketing efforts for Valhalla. While male Eivor is featured in the cinematic trailer, female Eivor also makes appearances in screenshots. Not much is known about the effect of choosing which gender, but based on Odyssey, not much will change besides the voice acting and general mannerisms.

Despite knowing that both characters will be canon, there is still many questions on how this will be done. However, since McDevitt addressed the question, one can assume that there will be tie-ins to the game, perhaps in the form of another novel, or even a movie or show.

So many details have emerged about Valhalla recently, but much is still unanswered about the game. Although no gameplay has been shown, the game is said to contain a wide variety of missions and activities like Viking rap battles and tending to the settlement. More details are expected to be revealed as the expected holiday release gets closer.
