Ubisoft's latest game in its popular Assassin's Creed franchise was met with praise from many players for its expansive narrative and the well-designed in-game world, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla has proven the staying power of the long-running series. However, as is common with game releases nowadays, even the best titles need post-launch updates to fix issues and rebalance gameplay. Occasional patches can do more than just solve problems, though; they can also offer new content to players to reward their loyalty and keep them coming back to games like Assassin's Creed Valhalla again and again.

The game has had a number of updates since its release in 2020, and the most recent one that came at the end of 2021 brought with it plenty of fixes. It also added some interesting new content for Assassin's Creed Valhalla players that have stuck with or are only just discovering the game. With added in-game support and extensive revisions, gamers will be relieved to know that Ubisoft is committed to making Assassin's Creed Valhalla as good a gaming experience as possible.

All The New Content In The Latest Update

Released on December 14, 2021, update 1.4.1 brought with it a significant restructure to the base game, along with fixes for bugs and additional content for Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Because the update was so extensive, it required a full reinstall of Assassin's Creed Valhalla's game files. However, this slightly frustrating aspect led to a smaller file size, faster loading screens, improved world data streaming, and increased runtime performance – a necessary overhaul of the entire game.

In addition to improved performance, the update also brought Assassin’s Creed Crossover Stories to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. These free quests, available from December 14, introduced Assassin's Creed Odyssey's protagonist Kassandra/Alexios into the world of Assassin's Creed Valhalla and added a new mission to Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Although the previous Assassin's Creed title is almost four years old, it's great that Ubisoft is still willing to add new content to the popular game. The Assassin's Creed Valhalla Crossover Story gives players the chance to see two formidable assassins come face to face as Kassandra/Alexios meets Eivor in the flesh. Both missions offer players new game rewards to unlock after completing the quests, including Viking-themed content for Assassin's Creed Odyssey and vice versa.

The update also heralded the start of the Yule Festival on December 16 and gave Assassin's Creed Valhalla players the chance to engage in the festivities, as well as access to new winter-themed aesthetic items like a snowy beard and hair or festive settlement decorations. In addition to this seasonal content, update 1.4.1 improved Assassin's Creed Valhalla's difficulty settings with added sub-sections to the Gameplay tab that expanded combat, stealth, and exploration options. With stealth improvements and other upgrades like Quest Log ordering, Assassin's Creed Valhalla's update had a focus on big and small issues alike.

Fixing Bugs And Patching Problems

As well as adding new things, Assassin's Creed Valhalla's update also fixed problems. From Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Main Quests and World Events to Side Activities, there was a list of issues that Ubisoft addressed in their latest update. With more balanced damage scaling across both melee and ranged combat, the update helps to improve gameplay in a variety of different ways. Players will be able to view more runes in their inventories and more items in their transmog menu, making navigating these in-game elements easier and more efficient.

Issues that were addressed in the update include glitches that prohibited players from starting certain quests, gamers falling through the floor while trying to complete Bleeding the Leech, and a variety of clipping and camera issues. Numerous UI/HUD problems were fixed, along with sound, lighting, texture, and graphical glitches. These are particularly important in open-world games like Assassin's Creed Valhalla, as visual and auditory problems can completely take players out of a game even if they might seem more insignificant compared to mission issues or item glitches.

In addition to visual bugs like floating objects or misplaced textures, Assassin's Creed Valhalla players were encountering frustrating glitches that saw NPCs, the longship, or even Eivor getting stuck in their environments. Other issues with the main character included the disappearance of helmets and facial hair when hooded while wearing the Fallen Hero gear, and the Shattered Destroyer's perk not entering cooldown. Update 1.4.1 aimed to fix these and other bugs throughout Assassin's Creed Valhalla, as well as improve general performance and stability across gameplay.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Upcoming Update

With Ubisoft releasing updates for Assassin's Creed Valhalla roughly every month, it's likely that update 1.4.1.3 will be going live in February. The January patch focused on fixing Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Yule Festival event. Although other successful seasonal events like the Ostara and Oskoreia Festivals have proven popular with players, adding settlement decorations as well as armor and weapon rewards, the Yule Festival had a number of issues that prevented players from enjoying it. Ubisoft extended the event in order to address player concerns, and players can now experience it as intended for the next few weeks.

Although the patch notes for the upcoming update haven't been released yet and the full extent of fixes hasn't been revealed, it's a fair assumption that rather than focusing on adding new content, Ubisoft will be predominantly fixing bugs and glitches. This will no doubt help to make sure Assassin's Creed Valhalla is in the best shape possible ahead of its next major expansion, Dawn of Ragnarok, which is due to release in March 2022. According to the developers, Dawn of Ragnarok is set to be the franchise's most ambitious expansion ever, where Eivor embraces their role as Odin and players explore one of the most famous Viking sagas of all time.

Making sure Assassin's Creed Valhalla is in shipshape before its biggest expansion launches is important, but so is addressing ongoing player concerns and frustrations. Ubisoft will no doubt continue to fix glitches and patch problems as Assassin's Creed Valhalla progresses through its post-launch lifecycle, and hopefully it will keep putting players first by prioritizing a satisfying and bug-free gaming experience.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
