Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes the open-world stealth franchise into the realm of Norse mythology, putting players into the perspective of the fictional protagonist Eivor the Wolf-Kissed. During the quest “Hunter of Beasts,” Assassin’s Creed Valhalla players must guide Eivor through the wilds of Vinland to track down and assassinate a member of the Order of the Ancients.

The quest is one of five that make up the Vinland Saga, which offers players a brief diversion from one of the best video game stories of 2020. After completing the mission “The Hunting Grounds,” Olav provides the player with some resources and guidance so that they can seek out the location of Gorm Kjotvesson, The Keel, and eliminate him.

Before heading out in search of the first camp, players have the optional objective of obtaining gear by trading with the locals. The importance of trading for gear is dependent upon what level the player character is at the time of the quest, as it can be obtained at any level. For lower-level characters, Eivor’s fists may be enough to complete the mission, but it’s advisable to acquire some basic armor, at least, and perhaps consider some tips to get off to a good start as an Assassin's Creed Valhalla beginner.

Like the mission that precedes it, “Hunter of Beasts” doesn’t provide objective markers for the player. This is in an attempt to immerse the player in their environment by forcing them to find clues that lead Eivor, perhaps the best assassin in the Assassin's Creed series, to the camp that houses their prey. There are four camps in the area that players can visit to track down Gorm:

  • Steinnhus Camp, due west of Olav’s location
  • Bruhamarr Outpost, southwest of Steinnhus Camp
  • Hvallgrof Outpost, northwest of the Bruhamarr Outpost and due west of Steinnhus Camp
  • Narfljot Camp, northwest by north of Hvallgrof Outpost

Each camp, save for the one that houses Gorm, follows the same pattern. Once the player arrives, they must eliminate all hostile characters at the location, at which point they’ll receive a note, and objective, informing them that Gorm has headed further inland. For players who want to head directly to Gorm, he will always be found at Narfljot Camp.

Upon arriving at Narfljot Camp, the player can find Gorm by scanning their surroundings and looking for the green outline. He may be located at the center of the camp holding a glowing, golden orb, or he could be walking around the camp with an assortment of guards. Players can brute-force their way through to him, or follow him stealthily until an opportune moment to take him down with the hidden blade, one of the hidden details everyone missed in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, becomes available.

Once Gorm is assassinated, a cutscene will play. After it finishes, Eivor receives an Order of the Ancients Medallion and the Crystal Ball that Gorm was holding, and players receive 3,400 experience points. The quest is completed and the Vinland Saga, where Assassin's Creed Valhalla connects with Assassin's Creed 3, continues with “Hunter’s Repast.”

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
