Assassin’s Creed Valhalla explores a narrative that surrounds many characters from Norse Mythology, weaving them into the game's story in interesting ways. Not only do AC Valhalla players get to explore the world of Vikings in Britain, but they also get to weave in the likes of Asgard into their play sessions. Mythical characters such as Thor, Freya, and Tyr, make an appearance and are closely tied to the narrative direction of Valhalla.

Of all the characters in Norse Mythology, Odin may be one of the most recognizable. Known for his power and wisdom, Odin is an iconic character throughout Norse Mythology. He has adapted to many different variations between movies and video games as well as other forms of media. In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Odin’s role is deeply ingrained into the narrative that Eivor experiences.

Valhalla players will get glimpses of Odin from an early point in the game, with his importance to the development of Eivor's story. The god makes suggestions in the mind of Eivor and vents his frustration at some of their decisions. Odin is never far from them. Eventually, this connection becomes overwhelming, and Eivor must fight Odin in AC Valhalla.

Updated September 19th, 2022, by Michael Llewellyn: Many battles in Assassin's Creed: Valhalla requires skill, patience, and leveling up Eivor's skills. Valhalla being an RPG, obtaining the necessary skills can take time as they are long experiences. Before the Origins Trilogy, several Assassin's games had boss fights that required brains instead of brawn.

Fans have longed to see a return to that form, and it looks like they will get it in the form of Assassin's Creed: Mirage. In the meantime, the final battle with Odin in Assassin's Creed: Valhalla has come full circle with a battle of wits against Odin, King of the Norse gods. This guide is updated to include a step-by-guide to defeating him.

The Odin Fight In AC Valhalla Explained

Assassins Creed Valhalla Odin

Fighting Odin in Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is more of a test of will than a fight. Odin cannot be beaten traditionally and requires more than a sharp weapon to defeat. Near the end of the game, players will confront Odin in a sort of dreamscape. Odin is armed with his spear and will taunt players while he attacks them. Eivor will only have access to an axe for this fight with Odin.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will force players to fight endlessly.

  • As the protagonist falls in the fight with Odin, Sigurd and Randvi will bring Eivor back to their feet.
  • If Eivor tries to run away in the direction of Sigurd and Randvi, Odin will drag them back to the battle.
  • After a couple of deaths, the game will inform players that Odin controls Eivor's axe, preventing them from reaching Sigurd.

How To Defeat Odin In AC Valhalla

Fighting and beating Odin in Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is easy. Valhalla players only need to drop their axe, which they can do by entering the inventory menu and unequipping the weapon.

  • Pause the game and open the Inventory tab.
  • Place the cursor over the weapon icon.
  • Now double-click the weapon icon to unequip it.
  • A fist icon will appear as a weapon instead.
  • Instead of fighting Odin, run toward Sigurd.

Odin will panic, calling for Eivor to pick up their axe and fight like a Viking warrior, but they should not listen. With the axe unequipped, Odin loses his control over Eivor. Valhalla players need only to run towards Sigurd, to end this fight and trigger a cutscene.

Assassins Creed Valhalla has many tough fights and challenges, yet the ultimate Norse god becomes powerless if players refuse to fight him in the first place. The vast and ambitious Assassin's Creed: Valhalla's story ends in 2022 with its Final Chapter to tie up loose ends and explore Eivor's relationships.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available now for Luna, PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
