Assassin's Creed Shadows (formerly Assassin's Creed Codename Red) has officially been revealed via its first trailer, which showcases parts of the game's story, its two protagonists, and its world. Set in 16th-century Japan, Assassin's Creed Shadows sees players taking control of Naoe and Yasuke, two protagonists of varying talents who join forces in the first Assassin's Creed game to allow it since Assassin's Creed Syndicate​​​​​​. As Naoe, players will be able to enjoy Assassin's Creed Shadows in true Assassin's Creed fashion with her ability to deliver devastating blows from the stealth that darkness provides. Yasuke, on the other hand, will allow players to take a more direct approach to combat, with Kurosawa-like duels to boot. That aside, while AC Shadows' protagonists certainly check off some items on fans' wish lists, there is one feature the game will include that fans have also been requesting for some time.

In almost any modern game, especially those belonging to the open-world genre, gamers crave a place that they can call home. As the demands of a game's story and various activities persistently weigh on them, players long for a place where they can go for a brief respite — a place where their favorite characters await them after a long journey or their comfortable bed invites them in for a restful nap. The Assassin's Creed series is no stranger to allowing players to customize their own hideout. In fact, one of the series' more recent installments, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, lets players gradually build up their settlement by adding new buildings at regular intervals throughout the story. Even so, to say installments such as Valhalla have hideout "customization" is generous, as players typically have very few liberties in the way their hideout is structured and appears. Assassin's Creed Shadows will be a different story.

In Assassin's Creed Shadows, players will be able to do much more than simply complete quests that see more buildings added to their hideout. Instead, they will be allowed to choose everything from their base's layout to its accessories and decorations. It's currently unclear just how extensive this customization will be, and whether players will be able to utilize creative mechanics like grid-free placement for their buildings. However, this is still a far cry from what the Assassin's Creed series has allowed in the past when it comes to hideouts. As such, fans who have been requesting Assassin's Creed's hideouts get a makeover for some time will likely have a lot to look forward to here.

Assassin's Creed Shadows' Ultimate Edition Includes a Hideout Pack

To celebrate the addition of a much more customizable hideout, Assassin's Creed Shadows' Ultimate Edition includes an exclusive hideout pack that will allow players to customize certain cosmetic aspects of their hideout. What each of the items in the pack is officially called is unknown, but the pack itself is called the "Sekiryu Hideout Pack." It appears the pack includes various ornaments for the player's base, as well as a large banner featuring a red dragon. This is just a small insight into what Assassin's Creed Shadows' base-building mechanics will be like, but it's enough to suggest far more hideout customization than the series has ever seen.
