When it initially debuted, Assassin's Creed Rogue was one of the most expansive open-world games in the franchise, with players being able to roam three heavily detailed main areas: the North Atlantic, the fictional River Valley, and New York City. On top of this, the game also offered a wide variety of random encounters with enemies, side missions, and collectibles on a scale that rivaled the biggest prior installments in the extensive Assassin's Creed series. So much was made available content that even after being out for over six years, players are still coming across hidden features and gameplay sequences within the game.

Released for the 7th Generation of gaming hardware, Assassin's Creed Rogue acted as a straightforward successor to Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, while also serving as the conclusion to the series' North American saga of games. However, unlike its predecessor or any other installment in the ever-sprawling Assassin's Creed franchise up to that point, Assassin's Creed Rogue uniquely put players into the black boots of a villainous Templar whose actions further escalate the centuries-long war between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order.

As a member of the Templar Order, players are expected to murder any rival assassins they come across throughout the vast map and in the story mode. It is during one said mission where Reddit user OrangeNinja32 has recently discovered a hidden assassination cutscene that is triggered during one of the early in-game training missions. This assignment sees protagonist Shay Patrick Cormac tasked by his friend Liam with learning how to successfully eliminate targets via various environmental takedowns.

As Liam is still Shay's ally at this point of Assassin's Creed Rogue, Shay will usually do a mock air assassination on Liam from a tree overhead before the pair breaks into laughter and banter. However, if the player ignores the route set for the air assassination and instead decides to sneak up to seize Liam from behind, the special cutscene in the post above will play out. This time, Shay attempts to restrain Liam in a choke hold, but his own skills are outmatched by Liam, who flips Shay onto the ground.

In summary, it's interesting to see that Ubisoft went the extra mile to fully render an entirely unique cutscene for such a brief section of the game. Given many players are only just discovering this out for themselves, as evident by the user replies to the Reddit post like "I think you are the only one finding that" and "never knew [this], that's amazing," this likely is one of the more obscure secrets in the Assassin's Creed series.

Assassin's Creed Rogue is currently available on PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
