Week after week, Ubisoft and the Assassin's Creed community have been celebrating each of the mainline games in the franchise. This is to celebrate the franchise's fifteenth birthday, and soon, Ubisoft will be turning its eyes to the future of the franchise. It promised a "future of Assassin's Creed" reveal in September, with that seemingly taking place during the Ubisoft Forward on September 10.

There are two major projects fans know of: the confirmed Assassin's Creed Infinity and the reported-and-all-but confirmed Assassin's Creed Rift. The latter has been said to go back to basics and be focused on Basim, but a new leak seemingly sheds more light on the upcoming title.

YouTuber J0nathan has previously leaked Assassin's Creed information, with many of his them eventually proving true. Now, according to J0nathan, the official name (as Rift is a codename) is Assassin's Creed Mirage, and it'll release in Spring 2023. It will take place between 860 and 870 AD in Baghdad, during the Anarchy of Samarra. Basim begins as a young thief before being folded into the Hidden Ones, with there being multiple cities to explore. It features gameplay described as a return to basics, with several RPG elements of later Assassin's Creed games being removed like dialogue and level systems. Eagle vision returns as well, although there will also be a bird, and Basim will utilize a mechanic known as the String Dagger.

Assassin's Creed Mirage will also feature content that slowly, seemingly, shows how Loki overtakes Basim's body and consciousness through quests known as "Visions of Loki." It is also claimed that Ubisoft is using Mirage's assets to remake AC1, which is said to be part of Mirage's Season Pass. There will also allegedly be other DLC for Assassin's Creed Mirage, including one where Basim meets Sigurd in Constantinople.

It should be noted that Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reached out to his sources regarding the leak, with them verifying that the Mirage title and other already reported elements of the leak are legitimate. However, his source pushed back and said some of it was false, such as the multiple cities. It's unclear about the DLC, as Schreier does not quote his source, but he also does not believe it would feature its own DLC (as Mirage was originally DLC for Assassin's Creed Valhalla).

Perhaps meeting Sigurd makes some sense, and this is Ubisoft in a world where DLC is more common than ever before, so it's hard to say for sure. The AC1 Remake information seems to be a bit of a stretch; however, fans will hopefully not have to wait long for Ubisoft Forward to confirm this game, the various details about it, and a more concrete release window.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is reportedly in development.
