Highlights

  • Assassin's Creed Red is rumored to feature gameplay elements similar to Sekiro, including a grappling hook and posture bar that can be filled to destabilize enemies.
  • The game will reportedly have a larger world than Assassin's Creed Valhalla, but smaller than Odyssey, and Ubisoft may reduce map markers for a more immersive experience.
  • Players will have the ability to hide in tall grass, extinguish torches to create hiding spots, recruit spies, and even go prone, according to a reliable Ubisoft leaker.

Assassin's Creed Red will feature at least two gameplay elements that are extremely similar to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, a well-known Ubisoft leaker has claimed, in addition to sharing a huge amount of other previously unreported details about the upcoming game. This unofficial info dump emerged online just as another report suggested that the protagonists of Assassin's Creed Red will include a samurai called Yasuke.

The first Japan-set entry in the long-running franchise is expected to feature at least one additional playable character. That other Assassin's Creed Red protagonist already appeared online in some artwork back in October. The image was spotted by YouTuber j0nathan, who has a consistent track record with Ubisoft scoops and leaks. On that occasion, the content creator also said that the character in question was a shinobi called Naoe.

Assassin's Creed Red May Feature a Grappling Hook and Posture Meter, Similar to Sekiro

The same French leaker has now taken to YouTube to share a huge amount of new information about Assassin's Creed Red. With a runtime of nearly 20 minutes, his latest video goes over many previously unreported details about the game, including the claim that the next mainline Assassin's Creed installment will feature a grappling hook, similar to Sekiro. The similarities between Ubisoft's upcoming title and FromSoftware's 2019 hit may not end there, as j0nathan also claimed that Red's combat will incorporate a posture bar that players will be able to fill to destabilize enemies, according to a translation of his remarks shared by Reddit user Cygus_Lorman.

The YouTuber also reported that Red will have a bigger world than Assassin's Creed Valhalla, while noting that its map will still be smaller than that of Odyssey. Furthermore, Ubisoft is currently said to be experimenting with the idea of doing away with an abundance of map markers that has long been a series staple. In terms of other new features, Red will supposedly allow players to go prone, extinguish torches in order to create dark hiding spots, and even recruit spies.

All Assassin's Creed Red Features Leaked by j0nathan

  • New and returning stealth mechanics
    • Extinguishing torches to create hiding spots
    • Going prone as an alternative to crouching
    • Hiding in tall grass
  • Sekiro-like gameplay elements
    • Grappling hook
    • Enemy posture meter
  • A map that's larger than Valhalla's, but smaller than Odyssey's
    • Ubisoft might do away with many map markers in favor of more immersive player guidance
  • Many new and returning gadgets, including bells, smoke bombs, shuriken, and kunai
  • Camp commanders who can be killed for loot, or spared and recruited as spies, who will then provide the player with intelligence

The purported spy system is allegedly tied to the game's camp liberation mechanics, similar to those from many past Ubisoft games. Specifically, each camp in Assassin's Creed Red will reportedly have a commander that players will be able to kill or spare. The former will supposedly reward them with loot, while the latter option will allegedly result in the spared character joining the protagonist's spy network and starting to provide them with mission-related intelligence.

The YouTuber also mentioned that Red will pit players against ashigaru, a type of feudal-era Japan infantry traditionally armed with primitive rifles known as matchlocks. Finally, the leaker claimed that the game will be filled to the brim with gadgets, including kunai, shuriken, smoke bombs, and even bells, whose purpose remains unclear. Some recent developments also indicated that Assassin's Creed Red will replace modern-day segments with a story set in the final decade of the 21st century, but j0nathan did not reflect on those claims.

Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed is an action-adventure stealth series published and developed by Ubisoft and its various first party studios. Originally releasing in 2007, the series has seen 12 mainline releases with the recent games moving to a more open-world RPG style. Each game typically showcases major historical moments like the Italian Renaissance, Crusades, or French Revolution, focusing mostly on a long standing conflict between the free-minded Assassins against the order loving Knights Templar.
