Without a doubt, the Assassin's Creed franchise is often best known for its combat elements, but the publisher and developer Ubisoft has decided to take a chance with the inclusion of a brand new battle-free mode to be added in the forthcoming Assassin's Creed Origins. Calling it "Discovery Tour," the free roam mode is set to be included in the action-adventure release sometime in 2018 by way of a free update, and it will remove all combat in order for players to more openly explore the title's ancient Egypt setting while being uninhibited by enemies.

According to a fresh blog post from Ubisoft, while players are in Assassin's Creed Origins' Discovery Tour mode, they will have the ability to walk or ride throughout the entirety of the game, including locations such as Alexandria, Memphis, the Nile delta, the Giza plateau, the Faiyum Oasis, as well as the Great Sand Seas, with there being no combat, no story, and no time limits. As explained by the publisher and developer, the point of Discovery Tour is to help players to better grasp the history of ancient Egypt.

Assassin's Creed Origins' Discovery Tour will include "dozens" of "guided tours" that have been organized by actual historians and experts, and they are to focus on such historical wonders as the Great Pyramids, the mummification process, Cleopatra's life, and much more. As seen above, Ubisoft has revealed an image of Discovery Tour that shows part of the mummification process, with the information having been sourced to Leiden's National Museum of Antiquities.

Taking all of this into consideration, while the majority of the Assassin's Creed franchise has played it fast and loose with historical details – both Charles Dickens and Charles Darwin interacted with protagonists Jacob and Evie Frye in Syndicate, for instance – Origins' Discovery Mode ought to give much fuller and more accurate context to the game's story. Plus, it has previously been revealed that AC Origins has real-life tombs, so it will be interesting to see how precise the historical information provided is as the title's plot progresses.

Assassin's Creed Origins is set to release on October 27, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
