The upcoming Assassin’s Creed Nexus will put players in the role of three fan-favorite Assassins like never before. Rumors of a virtual reality Assassin’s Creed spin-off have been circulating for years, though Ubisoft would only give an official word about it in 2020. Since then, the internet has been rife with speculation over how the gripping stealth and parkour action of Assassin’s Creed would translate to VR, as well as where and when its story will take place.

This long-rumored Assassin’s Creed VR title would finally be shown off with a brief teaser during the VR Meta Showcase on June 1. While not much was revealed in this teaser, eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed clues about past Assassin’s Creed heroes that could be playable in Nexus. This seems to line up with previous reports that Assassin’s Creed Nexus would be an anthology of sorts featuring past assassins, and now players have concrete confirmation that the game will let players see through the eyes of some of the series’ most noteworthy protagonists.

A new trailer for Assassin’s Creed Nexus was shown during today’s Ubisoft Forward 2023, which confirmed that the game would take place from a first-person perspective and allow players to jump, sneak, and kill their way across several historical landscapes as three fan-favorite assassins. Included in this trinity is Ezio Auditore da Firenze, the Italian Renaissance-era hero of Assassin’s Creed 2 and its spin-offs; Connor Kenway/Ratonhnhaké:ton, the cunning assassin who fought in the American Revolution during Assassin’s Creed 3, and Kassandra, who was one of two playable characters in the ancient Greece-set Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

After the trailer, Ubisoft Montreal Community Developer Clement Dagonneau took to the Ubisoft Forward 2023 stage to describe how Assassin’s Creed Nexus will take virtual reality to new levels and allow players to feel the rush of Assassin’s Creed’s classic stealth and parkour from the perspective of these legendary warriors. He also revealed that Nexus will be available on Meta Quest VR headsets this holiday season.

Nexus wasn’t the only Assassin’s Creed title shown off during today’s Ubisoft Forward livestream. Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade is a free-to-play, open-world RPG that will take players to ancient China on mobile devices, while Assassin’s Creed Mirage will reunite players with Valhalla’s Basim this October. In the meantime, the newly-revealed Assassin’s Creed Nexus will give fans an adrenaline-packed first-person view of some of the franchise’s most beloved heroes through virtual reality later this year.
