  • The expansion of Assassin's Creed to mobile is part of Ubisoft's efforts to expand the series across various platforms, including virtual reality and Netflix.
  • The iPhone 15 Pro is seen as the "next generation of mobile gaming" with improved performance and ray tracing capabilities, but its battery life when running AAA titles like Assassin's Creed Mirage remains to be seen.

Less than a month away from launch, Ubisoft revealed that it is bringing Assassin's Creed Mirage to the iPhone in 2024. The announcement came at this year's Apple September event where the tech giant unveiled its latest product lineup. While the Ubisoft franchise has made appearances on mobile on numerous occasions before, this marks the first time a mainline entry at the scale of Assassin's Creed Mirage will ship directly to the phone.

In recent times, Ubisoft publicly announced that it was doubling down on its efforts to expand the Assassin's Creed series, including platforms like Virtual Reality and mobile. The upcoming third-century China-based Assassin's Creed Jade is already in closed beta along with an exclusive Netflix entry in development. With mobile gaming capabilities seeing granular upgrades over the years, it shouldn't be a surprise if Ubisoft opts to see Assassin's Creed more on mobile. In any case, the idea that the popular franchise will have a mainline entry on an iPhone is bound to intrigue many gamers.

In the latest edition of Apple's September event, the company announced that the native version of Assassin's Creed Mirage is coming to the iPhone 15 Pro. While an exact launch date hasn't been revealed yet, the title will hit the platform in early 2024, which is a few months after Assassin's Creed Mirage releases on PC and consoles. Apple calls its iPhone Pro 15 a representation of the "next generation of mobile gaming" with support for PC and console games that were previously unavailable for mobile, teasing noticeable performance upgrades and ray tracing capabilities. However, time will tell how Ubisoft's AAA title performs on the iPhone 15 Pro, particularly when it comes to battery life.

Assassin's Creed Mirage New Release Date Smart Move

But Assassin's Creed Mirage isn't the only major title coming to the iPhone 15 Pro. The Division Resurgence, Resident Evil 4 remake, Resident Evil Village, and Death Stranding are also coming to the platform, albeit later this year instead of 2024. Interestingly, back in June Hideo Kojima announced that Death Stranding: Director's Cut will be available for the Mac in 2023 as well. The slew of recent announcements marks an interesting expansion towards high-profile gaming within the Apple ecosystem, largely thanks to its newer silicon chips like the M1 and the M2. Now, with the likes of Assassin's Creed Mirage getting the native iOS treatment, it will be interesting to see how Apple will move forward in this space.

Of course, much of the anticipation will be centered on Mirage's October 5 release on PC and consoles. Although, the inclusion of iOS will be a welcome addition to many gamers. Additionally, with other titles like Assassin's Creed Red and Assassin's Creed Hexe on the way, the intrigue around the franchise is only likely to grow in the coming months.

Assassin's Creed Mirage releases October 5 for Amazon Luna, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, and early 2024 for iPhone 15 Pro.
