Assassin's Creed Mirage seeks to emulate the stealth-based gameplay of the franchise's early titles, and is able to do so in a variety of ways. One of the main ways in which the game keeps players on their toes is the new Notoriety mechanic. Whenever the player is seen doing something illegal, such as performing assassinations in public or being caught stealing, their Notoriety will increase.

There are four levels to notoriety, with each one becoming increasingly severe and calling in new, harder enemies. The higher a player's Notoriety level, the harder it will be to navigate around the city, as ordinary citizens and guards alike will become alerted to Basim's presence. Fortunately, there are several countermeasures players can take to reduce Notoriety if it has been gained.

Bribe Munadi

Assassin's Creed Mirage Remove Notoriety Munadi

Throughout the city of Baghdad, players may notice certain preachers addressing the public and telling them of the latest gossip and rumors. These are the Munadi, a form of ancient journalist, who would preach current affairs rather than religious teachings for a population that was largely illiterate. The Munadi are crucial for swaying Notoriety, since it is often the public that will rush to alert guards of Basim's presence.

To bribe a Munadi, players will need to acquire a Power Favor Token. Usually, these tokens and others can be acquired by pickpocketing people, but it caught, this will raise the player's Notoriety level even further. Bribing a Munadi is the most effective method as it will completely reset Basim's Notoriety level. Similarly, Merchant Tokens can be used to lower prices and Scholar tokens can be used to bribe musicians and performers to distract guards.

Take Down Wanted Posters

How to Decrease Notoriety in Assassin's Creed Mirage Wanted Posters

Another way players can reduce their Notoriety level is to remove wanted posters when they appear around the streets. These are commonly indicated on the map and compass by the same newspaper icon as the Munadi. Citizens will often be gathered around the posters, but tearing them down will not alert them or cause them to go rushing to the guards.

Unlike Munadi Bribes, removing Wanted Posters will only reduce the player's Notoriety level by 1, so it can take several in order to lower the level to a safe amount. This can be especially effective if a minor offense has been comitted, or to simply reduce a heightened Notoriety level to a more manageable one. Keep in mind that citizens may recognize Basim from the posters and try to report him before the posters have been taken down.

Equip The Zanj Uprising Outfit

One other preventative measure players can take is to equip the Zanj Uprising Outfit from Basim's inventory. The outfit can be acquired by looting the chest in Harbiya's Upper Harbor. This location will be visited during the Harbormaster Case, so this can be a convenient time to acquire it.

The outfit will reduce the Notoriety gain of illegal actions by 20%, and can be upgraded to extend this to 30% and later 40% by visiting a Tailor. Keep in mind that this will not reduce Notoriety once it has been gained. It will still be necessary to remove Wanted Posters or bribe a Munadi to remove any gained Notoriety.
