  • While Ubisoft does not have plans for story DLC, its may release cosmetic microtransactions and bundles through its store, providing some post-launch content for Mirage.

Even though some fans may have loved the expansive RPGs that Assassin's Creed has been doing for the last couple of years, others were hoping for the franchise to return to its smaller scale roots. So, Ubisoft delivered on that wish by crafting the intriguing Assassin's Creed Mirage. It has significantly reduced the size of the story, the world, and stripped out many of the RPG mechanics to create a more enjoyable experience for many. But now some fans are wondering if this is all they can expect from Assassin's Creed Mirage.

Since Assassin's Creed Mirage is a smaller scale experience, it does not take very long to beat. Many players have found themselves finishing the main story in as little as 13 hours, which is a huge decrease from Valhalla. While that shorter experience is exactly what some fans wanted, others would have liked to be in Baghdad a bit longer. That is why players are wondering if Ubisoft has any plans for DLC, but that does not seem likely.

Why Assassin's Creed Mirage DLC Feels Unlikely

AC Mirage Trailer

Assassin's Creed Mirage was actually supposed to be a DLC for Valhalla back in 2020. The idea was that it would have served as a massive story expansion that would bring players back to the Middle East for a new type of adventure for the franchise's 15th anniversary. However, that pitch was apparently received incredibly well by Ubisoft, because three years later it has become its own game.

AC Mirage was really only a DLC for a couple of weeks before it was upgraded to its own game. The idea behind it may have seemed risky after three RPGs, but it has paid off incredibly well. Fans that had been burnt out by the last three titles seem to be loving it, especially since it is a more streamlined experience. But its size also means that some players are yearning for more, which they are unlikely to get.

Right now, Ubisoft does not have any plans for story DLC for Mirage. That is either because the studio is focusing on AC Red, or it may be because the game was envisioned as a standalone adventure from the beginning. While that may change depending on how successful it is, it currently seems like Mirage will be a one-and-done experience. Considering how much Assassin's Creed content is in the works, and that Mirage itself was envisioned as a DLC, this certainly makes sense.

However, that does not mean Mirage will have no form of post-launch content. There is a chance that Ubisoft at least continues to release cosmetic microtransactions through its store. Already, the studio is offering a couple Mirage cosmetic bundles for people that want to purchase them. It is also offering a purchasable map pack that reveals all the treasure for those who are not willing to wait. This may not be the DLC that fans wanted, but it seems to be the only thing Ubisoft has planned right now.

There is precedent for these smaller scale Assassin's Creed games to get DLC, as seen with the likes of AC 3's The Tyranny of King Washington or Syndicate's Jack the Ripper DLC. However, it does not seem like Mirage will be getting the same treatment, which is a shame. The game is a blast from the past that builds strong foundations for future stories, so hopefully fans get to see those stories somehow. While DLC would be one of the easiest ways to do that, it could also come in the form of a whole Basim trilogy if Ubisoft wanted. And yet, it seems more likely that the franchise will just move on.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
