Assassin's Creed Mirage has revealed a brand-new screenshot of Basim, the protagonist of the upcoming title, and Roshan though the latter is hidden. It seems as though marketing is really beginning for Assassin's Creed Mirage, which is slated to arrive in October.

Hype has been slowly building for the game for a while now, and it peaked recently as Ubisoft released the first gameplay trailer for Assassin's Creed Mirage. The reception from fans was extremely promising, as it looks to be the return to the old Assassin's Creed formula that was promised. While Assassin's Creed Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla were all successful in their own right, many gamers disagreed with the RPG approach that they took to their game design. Perhaps most promising from the trailer is the return of one-hit stealth kills, rewarding gamers who hide in the shadows while removing the spongy enemies in the RPG titles.

The screenshot was posted by the official Assassin's Creed Twitter account, showcasing protagonist Basim lurking in the shadows above his target. It's extremely cool and shows Basim hiding in the rafters, perhaps hinting at the stealth-focused gameplay that Assassin's Creed Mirage seems to be heading towards. However, eagle-eyed fans noticed something that full embraces the "hide in plan sight" approach. Below Basim, back in the crowd, fans have pointed out his mentor Roshan.

Basim made his first appearance in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and gamers are curious to see how he compares to many of the classic protagonists in the Assassin's Creed series such as Ezio Auditore and Edward Kenway. Often in the past, Assassin's Creed games have only been as good as their protagonist, so there's a lot of pressure on his shoulders. A good mentor goes a long way too, as though Roshan was introduced in post-release AC Valhalla content, AC Mirage will show her at the height of her power.

Before the game's release later this year, gamers are sure to get more about Assassin's Creed Mirage at Ubisoft Forward, and the studio also continues to hint toward the future of the franchise with multiple titles. Assassin's Creed Nexus will be part of the upcoming Ubisoft Forward too, hopefully providing an insight into just what players can expect from the upcoming VR title. With Assassin's Creed Jade, Hexe, and Red all in the works as well, it's an exciting time to be a fan of the franchise.

Assassin's Creed Mirage launches on October 12 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
