Like its predecessors that set the series' template years ago, Assassin's Creed: Mirage features a wide range of collectibles for the player to collect. Though it may be pared down in several ways, Mirage still contains these items that have now become as much a part of the series as smoke bombs and hidden blades. Luckily, Assassin's Creed: Mirage seems to put more thought into the collectibles and how they tie into the greater lore. A perfect example is found in the game's Lost Books.

Basim will come across Lost Books many times over the course of his journey. These collectibles can be found the moment he is set free as a Hidden One initiate on the streets of Baghdad. This guide will reveal the location of each Lost Book, as well as what to do with them when they are found.

AC Mirage Lost Books Explained

ACMirage-Lost-Book-Viewpoint

Assassin's Creed: MIrage's Lost Books are a special collectible that Basim will discover very early in his journey. Upon finding the first book, a new quest, 'The Bookworm' will start automatically. It is explained that Basim must return each book to Al-Jahiz at the House of Wisdom. The initial list says that there are 6 books, so that is the first task to complete in this mission.

Lost Book 1: Harbiyah – Kalila wa-Dimna

ACMirage-Lost-Books-1-Map

The first Lost Book in Assassin's Creed: Mirage is the Kalila wa-Dimna. Technically there is no official order that the books must be found or returned in, so players are free to tackle this list in any order they see fit. The Kalila wa-Dimna just happens to be found in a section of Baghdad that Basim will have access to very early in AC Mirage.

The Book is found in the Kalila and Dimna Historical Site, on the eastern edge of the Great Mosque district, just before the river that separates it from the Tomb of Zubaydah. Once in the general area, use Enkidu to pinpoint the Book's exact location. AC Mirage's Pathfinder Skill may be helpful here, but it seems that the Lost Books will be revealed with Enkidu's basic observation powers.

Once Basim has observed the golden beam that marks the book, he will notice that this area is luckily unguarded. Head into the courtyard near the Book's location. Using Eagle Vision, Basim will find a barred door with an explosive pot noticeable inside the building. From this door, looks straight up to find an open window. Climb in the window and loof for a stair set inside leading to the first floor. The bottom will be blocked, but Basim can use a throwing knife to blow up the pot, destroying the bar on the door. Head back outside through the open window, then return through the door to collect Kalila wa-Dimna.

Lost Book 2: Harbiyah – Al-Tabari: Tafsir of al-Tabri

ACMirage-Lost-Book-2-Map-1

The second Lost Book in AC Mirage is found in the secret chamber beneath the Nestorian Monestary. Here, the Pathfinder Skill will absolutely help, as Basim must enter through a secret chamber in the Monastery Courtyard.

Follow the stairway down until it opens up. The first chance he gets, he should turn left and head to the very end of the chamber. Look for one of the classic moving shelves that are used in so many Assassin's Creed puzzles. This will be the first of three that Basim will have to move. Pull it back as far as possible, then head back down the chamber. There will be a middle section where the next shelf will be; pull that out as well. Finally, look for the shelf closest to the entrance, and pull it away, revealing a small hole in a wall.

Head through the hole to enter a secret chamber. The Book is behind a curtain that can be tricky, as it might appear as if there is simply a wall behind it. Head through the curtain to reveal a small chamber, and the Lost Book on a pedestal.

Lost Book 3: Abbasiyah – Al-Kwarizmi: Al-Jabr

The third Lost Book in AC Mirage is found west of the Observatory in Abbasiyah. It is located almost directly across the river from the House of Wisdom, where Basim must take the books to receive his rewards.

This Lost Book is very simple to find. Once the player is close to the marker, the exact location of which can be seen in the accompanying image, walk around the outside of the bottom floor until a breakable door is found. Players can smash it with their sword, or throw a knife.

Once inside, look for the shelf that is blocking the stairway up. Pull it back to gain access to the upstairs area, where the Lost Book is waiting to be collected.

Lost Book 4: Wilderness – Suleiman al-Taijir: Accounts of China and India

ACMirage-Lost-Book-4-Map

The fourthLost Book is found in the Wilderness, just east of the Pomegranate Gate, outside of southern Karkh. The book is located in the Tuesday Market, which is guarded by several enemies. If players want to quickly get the book, they can simply take out the enemies in open combat, as taking the time to quietly infiltrate the building is much more time-consuming.

The Book itself is found on the second floor of the main structure, which stands in the center of the courtyard.

Basim can either pickpocket the key to the room (or take it from the guard's corpse), or simply enter the open second-floor window. Watch out for the guard that is waiting right inside, directly next to the Book, which sits on a Pedestal right inside the window.

Lost Book 5: Karkh – The Banu Musa: Book of Ingenious Devices

ACMirage-Lost-Book-5-Map

The fifth Lost Book in Assassin's Creed: Mirage is located in the Karkh district, on the eastern edge of the city. Look for the Harbor Camp POI along the river, and head to the building just next door. Enkidu will spot the Book from the sky, but be careful, as there are sharpshooters nearby.

ACMirage-Lost-Book-5-Window-Throw

There are guards in the area of the building that contains the Lost Book, but as long as Basim does not engage in violence, he shouldn't have to worry. Players may also notice one of the guards has a key, but this is not required, and does not help in any way. It opens a chest inside the building that offers crafting resources.

ACMirage-Lost-Book-5

To get the book, Basim will need to make sure he has throwing knives, one of Mirage's main Tools. Look for the platform and window on one side of the building. Basim needs to throw a knife and break the bar holding the window on the other side shut. Once it is destroyed, head to the other side, enter the window, and collect the Book.

Lost Book 6: Round City – Palace of the Green Dome

ACMirage-Lost-Book-6-Map

Unfortunately, it seems that at the moment, this Lost Book, the final of the first 6 that Al-Jahiz requires, is locked behind story progression. Players cannot bypass this issue by claiming Lost Book 7, as it will not count towards the total. Players must wait until they can infiltrate the Palace of the Green Dome after 'The Serpent's Nest.'

Once players have access to the palace, head to the eastern side of the palace, on the mid-level beneath the southeastern dome. Look for a stack of boxes that look like a step-up. Use those to jump to a swing that will launch Basim to an open window. The window is only open after Basim has reached the correct point in the story. Even with the window closed, using Eagle Vision will reveal the final Lost Book just inside.

Lost Book 7: Sulecia-on-the-Tigris – Kitab al-Azif

ACMirage-Lost-Book-7-Map

This final Lost Book is special, and can be picked up any time the player wishes. Take Basim's mount out to the swamp at the southeastern-most point on the map. Here, Basim will come across the Sulecia-on-the-Tigris ruins. In the center of the ruins, there is a breakable patch in the ground that is very hard to miss. Look for the nearby ladder with two explosive pots at the bottom. Head up the ladder to find two of the smaller, throwable pots.

From the top, Basim can throw it far enough to destroy the breakable patch. Kitab al-Azif is waiting to be collected.

All Lost Book Rewards in Assassin's Creed: Mirage

ACMirage-Lost-Books-Al-Jahiz

Scholar Tokens, Scholar Outfit:

Each of six main Lost Books that Basim collects will award him a single Skill Point. When he returns them to Al-Jahiz, he will be awarded a single Scholar Token for each. These are special tokens that Basim can use to pay for services throughout Baghdad. When all six books have been returned, Basim will be awarded the Scholar Outfit.

Monstrous Talisman:

When Basim returns the seventh and final book, Al-Jahiz informs Basim that this is actually 'The Book of the Dead.' After downplaying any special significance of keeping this book in his collection, Al-Jahiz awards Basim the Monstrous Talisman. There seems to be a slight Lovecratian reference here, but other than that, the Talisman, like all others, appears to be purely cosmetic.

Assassin's Creed: MIrage is available now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
