  • Assassin's Creed Mirage brings players back to an era where the Creed was everywhere, with bureaus, hidden HQs, and assassins in the shadows.
  • The game hints at the possibility of a powerful assassin, Iltani, who deserves her own game due to her major contributions and intriguing story.
  • Ubisoft has been leaving clues about Iltani since AC 2, and now it's time for them to explore her story and let players experience the legendary assassin's tale.

Unlike some of the recent AC games, Assassin's Creed Mirage has brought players back to an era where the Creed was seemingly everywhere. Bureaus dot the city landscapes, assassins lash out from the shadows, and the Creed have built themselves a massive hidden HQ. Because of this, players will be interacting with all sorts of assassins along their journey. One such interaction seems to hint at an assassin who has deserved her own game since Assassin's Creed 2.

While it is relatively brief, players are able to start some conversations with various assassins near the beginning of Assassin's Creed Mirage. One of these conversations sees the NPC talk about a powerful poison. Not just any poison, but the exact poison that the legendary assassin Iltani used. Diehard fans may recognize that name immediately as it has cropped up in a couple of AC titles. However, her story has never been explored past these brief mentions, and it is time for that to change.

It is Time for Assassin's Creed Iltani

Not much is known about Iltani besides her major contributions to the Creed, but what the Assassin's Creed fanbase does know sounds very interesting. She lived during the height of the Macedonian Empire and was a member of the Babylonian Brotherhood. During her tenure, Persia was conquered by the Macedonian Empire led by Alexander the Great. He tore through her homeland with a Staff of Eden at his side, and so Iltani went out to stop him.

Iltani would end up tracking him down to a massive citadel in the city of Herat. In typical Assassin's Creed fashion, she was able to sneak into the citadel but was quickly discovered. Instead of taking Alexander the Great on, she chose to retreat to live another day. Her mission was not over, though, and she chose to go about things a bit differently next time.

Iltani would go to Babylon to meet with a renowned alchemist. He would teach her a secret slow-acting poison formula which she would use to take out Alexander the Great. In case she was killed, she left the poison's formula behind for the Hidden Ones to find, which is what the conversation in Assassin's Creed Mirage alludes to. After her success, nothing else is really known about her life.

While some players may think that Assassin's Creed Mirage is the first time Iltani was mentioned, she was actually introduced in AC 2. In that game, Ezio Auditore would end up exploring a tomb dedicated to her within the spire of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence. That tomb included a hidden assassin seal that would help him unlock the Armor of Altair beneath Villa Auditore. And while she did not appear, her presence was felt throughout the area.

Iltani's story would be further explored via Assassin's Creed Initiates and Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India. Both projects would further clarify aspects of her story, specifically her role within the Creed. While Initiates' closure could result in these stories being de-canonized, Chronicles: India has cemented Iltani's place within the timeline. But even with all of that, Ubisoft has done little to explore her further.

Ubisoft has been leaving clues about Iltani in various places since AC 2, so it only makes sense that it would put her at the center of her own video game. Letting players experience the story of the legendary assassin who was supposedly instrumental in taking out Alexander the Great sounds like a fantastic time. Because AC Mirage marks her first mention since 2016, it feels like the studio is at least interested in her story, and now would be a great time to finally tap into that potential.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
