Assassin's Creed Mirage includes another returning feature from the original Assassin's Creed game, invoking nostalgia for players who experienced the franchise's first game in 2007. Ubisoft is taking Assassin's Creed fans back to a familiar setting with a renewed focus on action-adventure elements in Assassin's Creed Mirage.

In Assassin's Creed Mirage, players will explore 9th century Baghdad in a coming-of-age story as Basim, a young street thief that eventually becomes a legendary Master Assassin. Ubisoft's new title pays homage to the first Assassin's Creed game by going back to its action-adventure roots rather than the RPG style that Assassin's Creed Valhalla used. Gameplay appears to be another focal point for Assassin's Creed Mirage with Ubisoft claiming that Basim is "the most versatile Assassin" in the franchise's history. Basim will have a variety of tools at his disposal, and his parkour skills allow him to easily navigate the bustling city of Baghdad.

In a new video titled "A Return to the Roots," Ubisoft confirms that Assassin's Creed Mirage includes a "nostalgic visual filter" option that harkens back to 2007's Assassin's Creed. When the option is turned on, the player may enjoy Assassin's Creed Mirage with a desaturated blue-gray color palette that the original Assassin's Creed game once had on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. The Assassin's Creed Mirage development team demonstrates this feature with actual gameplay as Basim explores Baghdad and assassinates a target on a rooftop.

Ubisoft reiterates that Assassin's Creed Mirage is developed by a passionate team that wishes to pay tribute to the original game. Assassin's Creed Mirage's "core pillars" are parkour, stealth and assassinations according to the development team, but players can expect some "surprises" as well. One of these surprises appears to be the nostalgic visual filter, and Ubisoft plans to reveal more details in subsequent videos and trailers.

The returning color palette feature is an endearing addition by the Assassin's Creed Mirage development team. Although some may consider the filter option to be fanservice, it's another sign that major Ubisoft franchises are going back to their roots in order to regain good will with the community and make their fans happy with exciting game releases.

Assassin's Creed Mirage revisits the past of the franchise, but the upcoming title includes enticing features that could lead Assassin's Creed in a new direction going forward. For the first time, the Assassin's Creed series will feature Arabic voice-overs and subtitles in Assassin's Creed Mirage. Additional care and attention to detail by Ubisoft may be beneficial for future Assassin's Creed titles.

Assassin's Creed Mirage launches October 12 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
