One of the most interesting things about the world of the Assassin's Creed franchise is how it took artistic liberty to transform the various gods of different mythology and made them make sense to the story of the world. What's known in the real world as gods, are known by the assassins and the templars in the game as the Isu.

The Isu, according to Minerva, aren't gods. They simply came before. Be that as it may, there are still indeed the creators of humankind who roamed the Earth before the Great Catastrophe. Like many of the aspects of the game's universe, the creators of humankind prove to be filled with interesting details.

10 Their Origin Is Unknown

Similar to humans in the real world, the Isu race is a product of thousands of years of evolution. At the peak of their existence, the Isu wound up becoming a more advanced and powerful race than the humans of today.

What's known is that the Isu have walked the Earth for as far as they can remember. However, even they themselves are unaware of their actual origins. Whether they evolved from a single-cell organism or they come from somewhere else is unknown.

9 The Homo Sapiens And The Neanderthals

The Isu created homo sapiens, or the human race, for one sole reason: to act as a docile workforce. The Isu created the humans in their own image, which is why the ones shown in the game look very similar to humans, albeit with other unique characteristics.

The Isu also created the other forms of humans called the neanderthals. While the homo sapiens was created to be the workforce of the Isu, the neanderthals were created to be the military force.

8 They Purposefully Made The Humans To Be Lesser Than Them

The Isu created the human race in their own image. According to Minerva, humans are built to survive. However, like many creators who are afraid of being overcome by their creations, Juno also admitted that humans were created to never surpass the Isu.

The human race was not intended to be a "wise" species. This was purposefully done so the humans would remain obedient to the Isu. They even created artifacts that would act as controllers whenever a human would start to become insubordinate.

7 The Hybrids

At one point in history, it seems a couple of Isu started interbreeding with the human race. This union between the two races resulted in the creation of the hybrids. Unlike humans, the hybrids were born without the transmitters the Isu utilized to control humankind using the Pieces of Eden.

The only two known hybrids are Adam and Eve. Due to their ability to disobey the Isu, Adam and Even led a revolution for freedom against their creators.

6 The Human-Isu War

The war between the humans and the Isu began when two human-Isu hybrids rebelled against their creators and stole a Piece of Eden known as the Apple.

Adam and Eve led the humans, prompting them to fight for freedom against the outnumbered Isu, although the latter group was still technologically superior. This war went on for a decade. Unfortunately, due to this war, everyone on Earth was unable to sense the impending doom that would strike them from the heavens.

5 Working Together With The Humans

With the inevitable doom that would soon hit the Earth, many Isu saw fit to make peace with the humans, and the latter felt the same. Despite this compromise, it is widely considered that the humans ended up winning the war against their creators.

Together, the humans and the Isu started creating countermeasures to avoid extinction. A few accepted their fate, and instead of attempting to save themselves in the present, they instead sent messages to the future as a form of warning.

4 The Capitoline Triad

Throughout the run of the Human-Isu war, not every member of the Isu race was interested in participating in the war. One of those groups was the Capitoline Triad, which consisted of Minerva, Juno, and Jupiter. It was them who first foresaw the coming of the Great Catastrophe.

For years, the Capitoline Triad locked themselves in the Grand Temple of the Isu to prevent the extinction of their race. However, all of their efforts would prove ineffective.

3 Their Failed Solutions

According to Jupiter, the Isu managed to come up with six different solutions to save their race. However, none of them succeeded. The various temples encounter around the world of Assassin's Creed used to be the places where the Isu would experiment with various solutions for the catastrophe.

The most encouraging solution the Isu managed to come up with was still impossible to accomplish, as it supposedly required thousands of years to perform. This solution ended up saving the world in 2012 during the second disaster.

2 The Seventh Solution

The Capitoline Triad believed there were only six solutions to protect their race. However, a different faction of Isu called the Aesir managed to come up with a different solution in order to save themselves in the long run.

They uploaded their consciousness to the Life Tree so that they would later be reincarnated into different bodies, thus saving themselves. Known as the seventh solution, this was something the Capitoline Triad was unaware of.

1 Minerva And Juno

Following the Great Catastrophe, two Isu – Minerva and Juno – managed to maintain their influence upon the human race. Minerva is more empathetic towards humans. She left various messages to help humanity once the catastrophe returns. Juno, on the other hand, had other plans.

Juno wanted to be reborn and released upon the world. There's even a cult, the Instruments of the First Will, dedicated to her rebirth and subsequent rise to power.
