Some Assassin's Creed fans may be put off by Ubisoft's big gamble. After changing the gameplay and design from an action-adventure game to an RPG in the latest trilogy, there's going to be another huge overhaul for the next big expansion. In the publisher's own words, this next installment, Assassin's Creed Infinity, will "guide, grow, evolve, and define the future of Assassin's Creed." The verbiage from the disclosures possibly hints that the next Assassin's Creed game might be the last of the franchise or the start of something totally different.
The Assassin's Creed series has become a beloved franchise over the years, pulling in fans from all walks of life and putting a lot of interesting history front and center for players to enjoy. With each new release, Ubisoft adds a myriad of interesting features while still maintaining the core elements that make the series so iconic and replayable. While players aren't sure what to fully expect with this upcoming release, there's a myriad of rumors and information circulating the web.
Updated on September 19th, 2022 by Hodey Johns: The latest surprise news is that Ubisoft is squeezing in another game, Assassin's Creed Mirage, before getting back to work on Assassin's Creed Infinity. Players might think that the updates on this front have slowed down, but the new game announcement has opened up a flood of questions and answers about what Assassin's Creed Infinity will entail. Players now have some specifics as to what the game is and, shockingly, it's not a game at all. This new information in light of recent interviews and releases has been incorporated into this article to give gamers a clearer picture of when the final product will get here and what it will look like.
A Platform/Hub, Not A Game
Executive Producer Marc-Alexis Côté has reported that the "game" will actually be a launcher for other Assassins' Creed titles. He even had two project codenames ready to go in an interview, calling the two games coming to the platform "Red" and "Hexe." They will be available to purchase as in-game content within the hub itself as DNA memories. Fans of the classic games will get a kick out of that marketing.
Assassin's Creed Infinity is built up to end the process of "[passing] the baton from game to game."Jason Schreier reports that the game will "contain multiple settings with room to expand to others in the months and years following its debut."
They've teased crossover potential with already existing titles. This could be merely an advertising technique as it has only existed as a suggestion, but the platform model of the "game" makes it so that touching on multiple franchises can't ever be ruled out until the servers are abandoned.
Predicting Assassin's Creed Infinity Release Date
Coming 2024 Or Later?
Most industry experts are guessing that Assassin's Creed Infinity is at the very least three years away from its announcement in 2021. The studio itself hasn't offered an estimation at all, so this is merely speculation from outsiders based on the size and scope of the project and the length of time that prior games have been in development for.
It's safe to say that this game isn't right around the corner. When Assassin's Creed Infinity even has a ballpark time of arrival, that information will be right here. Make no mistake, this is very early to be talking about the game, but Ubisoft was basically forced to reveal the game's development after a leak.
The Trailers
Along with the announcements of the two new games that will be on Assassin's Creed Infinity, Ubisoft also released two very light, 30-second trailers for their two projects.
There has been no word on Assassin's Creed Infinity getting a trailer of its own. While it might build some hype, it's hard to make a trailer for a service model and not the games themselves, so a trailer may never come. If it does, it will be posted here.
Live Service
Assassin's Creed Infinity will be a live service style of presentation. Latest Ubisoft additions have notoriously required being online to play already, even with single-player modes, so this will simply make this reliance on the internet official. For reference, games like Destiny, Marvel's Avengers, and Anthem are all live service games. Assassin's Creed games have had multiplayer modes before, so it could be as simple as a few PvPvE maps, or perhaps something even more expansive.
It's unknown whether players will be able to play alone or if other gamers will be present in the world. The word "massively" has been used more than once, so anybody hoping for an Assassin's Creed MMO isn't entirely ruled out just yet.
For those with a completely understandable aversion to the free-to-play model, it has been announced that Assassin's Creed Infinity will not be free-to-play.

Gameplay
The game that once shifted from action-adventure to RPG will not be an RPG any longer. It was not confirmed if this means they'll go back to the action-adventure model, but there is a good chance that's what will happen, bringing the series back to when it was at its best.
The games will also be shorter adventures, less than 150 hours at a minimum. Players can only hope this is true. Remember, this is the same studio that promised shorter games and then delivered longer ones before deleting their tweets and pretending nothing happened. Still, the setup of the game seems it will make good on their promise this time around.
Who Is Developing Assassin's Creed Infinity
Two Huge Studios
Ubisoft is not a single location outfit, so it's natural to wonder which of their studios will be working on the project. They have announced who all is going to be involved in making the game and they've tagged two of their two most prestigious studios.
For Assassin's Creed Infinity, the company has opted to use Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec, heavy hitters with a ton of name recognition. Ubisoft Quebec is known for a few Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six games, Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Odyssey, and the studio's latest surprise hit, Immortals Fenyx Rising. Ubisoft Monreal has hits that include Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs, and various Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell games.
It will be fascinating to see how these studios work together. Ubisoft has committed to modernizing its industry practices to reflect its values and allow for remote participation, so there is a great deal riding on this experiment.
Individual Talent
Don't miss the forest for the trees, the people in charge are the ones that make or break this title. Assassin's Creed Infinity, appropriately, will be led by individuals from within the ranks of Ubisoft.
Marc-Alexis Côté has been tagged as the executive director. He founded Ubisoft Quebec and has done work with Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Syndicate, and Odyssey. He partners with the ten-year brand director Étienne Allonier from Ubisoft Montreal.
The senior producer over both studios is Julien Laferrière, who has been working on Assassin's Creed games since 2007 and kept going all the way through Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
There will be a shared role for creative director, filled by Jonathan Dumont (Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Odyssey) and Clint Hocking (Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Far Cry 2, and Watch Dogs; Legion).
Settings And Story
Settings
It has been confirmed that Assassin's Creed Infinity will ambitiously have multiple settings. From the start of the first installment to the end of the last, Assassin's Creed has always been about exploring locations as they existed in history. Now, players will get the chance to more easily explore different locations within the same application.
There was speculation that the animus will be used to go between these different places. This appears to have been confirmed by the Red trailer.

Story
Perhaps the biggest question mark on the entire project is what will happen with the story. Despite Assassin's Creed Valhalla setting a sales record due to excitement for the story to progress, the game also set a dubious record for the lowest completion rate in the entire genre.
According to recent reports, the modern-day storyline that completely fell apart will be scrapped in Assassin's Creed Mirage and reconstructed in Assassin's Creed Infinity. This is a mix of good and bad news for players who either want to see it resolved or who want a do-over entirely.
