The upcoming Assassin's Creed Hexe is one of the most exciting and intriguing new projects that was recently announced for the longstanding Ubisoft IP. All of these projects differ quite significantly in their proposed settings and gameplay formulas, hopefully fostering a huge range of experiences for the franchise's next generation of titles.

Of these new games, it can be said that Assassin's Creed Hexe is one of the most talked about, primarily due to the lack of concrete information that is available regarding the release. With just a brief amount of promotional material to work with, the potential narrative and gameplay of Hexe has sent fans into a frenzy of debate about what the title will eventually look like. Fans have already put forward fantastic cases for what kind of experience Hexe will provide, and the release could very well share a lot of similarities with 2012's Assassin's Creed 3.

The Rumored Setting and Gameplay of Assassin's Creed Hexe

The two primary sources of information that can help players understand what Hexe will entail are the title of the game and the brief promotional reveal trailer that it possesses. Assassin's Creed Hexe's trailer is dark and ominous, with the camera creeping through a dense forest before settling on an Assassin Brotherhood sigil made of twigs, suspended above a roaring fire.

This has led many to believe that Hexe will portray a coven of witches, most likely in Europe around the 1500s. During this time period, Europe was dominated by the Holy Roman Empire, whose reign was partly typified by the widespread persecution of alleged witches in the name of religion, often by burning them at the stake. This iconography matches well with the aforementioned trailer for Hexe, with the title of the game itself also potentially relating to the hexes associated with witchcraft. With the Holy Roman Empire being the perfect kind of organization Assassin's Creed's Templar influence, it is clear to see how this setting could fit well within the Assassin's Creed universe.

What Assassin's Creed Hexe Could Share With Assassin's Creed 3

Assassins-Creed-3-17

2012's Assassin's Creed 3 is a game of fairly mixed reception within the franchise's long-term fan base, but nobody can deny the unique mechanics and narrative decisions that the title brought to the IP. One of the most standout unique features of the game concerned the ostracized nature of Assassin's Creed 3's protagonist Connor, who was consequently a guarded and reserved figure.

As a half-Native American living during the American Revolution in Assassin's Creed 3, Connor was of course the victim of intense persecution, much in the same way that the potential characters of Hexe would have been during the reign of the Holy Roman Empire. The two titles would immediately share a very important similarity in this factor alone, with the protagonist of Hexe most likely belonging to a coven or at the very least being associated with supposed "witches."

The next key similarity that the two titles could potentially possess concerns the likely landscapes that they would both share. Assassin's Creed 3 wowed fans by turning forests into playgrounds via refined tree-parkour mechanics, which ended up becoming a defining aspect of the game's offered experience. Of course, if the trailer for Assassin's Creed Hexe is anything to go by, then it is likely that this mechanic will return and will be of huge importance within the upcoming game, just as it was in Assassin's Creed 3. While many of these points are contingent upon rumors, it is clear that Hexe could very easily share a huge amount of similarities with AC3, from both a storytelling and gameplay perspective.
