FromSoftware's recent launch of Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon has already hit an impressive milestone, being one of the biggest Steam game launches of 2023. This new entry in the mecha-focused series has recently been a hot topic of discussion, with Armored Core 6 garnering positive critical and fan reception after over a decade of absence. Despite being a completely different type of game than FromSoftware has been famous for in the last few years, Armored Core 6 shows that the developers were working hard to re-introduce this series to a brand-new audience.

The game's popularity can be seen in the way that Armored Core 6 carries the spirit of the Soulslike titles released beforehand, including the ability to customize robots with different options and strategies. Players have also gotten the opportunity to decorate their mechas in various ways, with many sharing their creations online about how they made a mecha after a certain theme. The game has already been a hit on Steam, as seen with its concurrent player record making it one of the biggest launches of 2023.

SteamDB is a database for Valve's platform, providing analytical data and other information regarding the games sold on it. These charts include the number of players that have been playing specific games all at the same time. Based on this database, Armored Core 6 had managed to hit a peak concurrent count of 150, 959 players during its launch. This makes it the fifth-biggest launch of the year, with four other games above it in terms of 2023's concurrent launch player count: Hogwarts Legacy, Baldur's Gate 3, Sons of the Forest, and Resident Evil 4's 2023 remake.

Despite its numbers not scratching the same concurrent player count raked in by the likes of Hogwarts Legacy and Baldur's Gate 3, it is still a rather impressive figure considering Armored Core is one of FromSoftware's more relatively niche series. Compared to other FromSoftware game launches, Armored Core 6 is the studio's second-biggest launch, with Elden Ring being at the top in terms of launch player count. It however surpasses the player count of other FromSoftware titles that have launched on Steam, such as Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Armored Core 6's launch player count was surpassed quite recently over the weekend as well, managing to hit a new all-time peak of 156, 171 players on August 14, 2023. Despite it going up against some big titles that launched this month, most notably Baldur's Gate 3, it seems Armored Core 6 has done a good job to stand out and carve out a newfound following.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
