According to a recent report, FromSoftware's upcoming mecha action title, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, uses the same engine that was used for both Elden Ring and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The upcoming sixth game is the latest entry in the long-running franchise, with its last numbered title having been released in 2012. This sixth game will be the first Armored Core game in over ten years.

With the game's release later this August, fans have been getting a lot of information about how it plays and aspects of its design. This includes the gameplay, the build mechanics, and even the file size and PC specs required to run Armored Core 6. With only a week before the game's official launch, fans have been getting some chances to play the game early via a preview hands-on demo. One fan who played the game recently was able to reportedly confirm its engine, which is the same one used for two of FromSoftware's past works.

This information comes from Lane McDonald on Twitter, where he "100%" confirms that Armored Core 6 is running on the same engine that powered Elden Ring and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. With the games sharing the same backend technology, fans note that modders might have some fun with possibilities, such as porting Elden Ring's bosses into Armored Core 6 or vice-versa.

FromSoftware once stated it was looking to avoid comparisons between Elden Ring and Armored Core 6, with the latter initially being planned with open-world elements. Unlike both Sekiro and Elden Ring, Armored Core 6 is an evolution of its mecha-piloting customization-based gameplay. Not only that, but it has a completely different style of play, where the appeal is in building a powerful robot that can tackle the missions in fast-paced action, which is different from the slower and more methodical approaches of Elden Ring. Regardless, some fans might be happy to hear that both games have this one commonality.

Early impressions of Armored Core 6 have been quite positive, especially those who are newcomers to FromSoftware's old franchise. Despite how the systems differ between the Soulsborne titles and this game, there are plenty of mechanics that promise a deep and engaging experience. There is less than a week before its official launch, with players who have pre-ordered the game having the option to preload it a few days before its release.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon will be available on August 25, 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
