While it may be getting harder to find actual arcade cabinets out in the wild, that simply means there are tons of collectors out there looking for cool set pieces to add to their collection. Luckily, Arcade 1up is hoping to fill the void left by hard-to-obtain classic machines with its new, smaller arcade cabinets.

The Arcade 1up cabinets are about 80% the size of a regular arcade cabinet, which should make it a tad bit easier to squeeze them into a home arcade. There are currently four different cabinets up for pre-order, each boasting 3-4 different titles loaded onto them:

  • Rampage: Rampage, Gauntlet, Joust, Defender
  • Centipede: Centipede, Crystal Castles, Missle Command, Atari Millipede
  • Asteroids: Asteroids, Tempest, Major Havoc, Lunar Lander
  • Street Fighter: Street Fighter II Champion Edition, Street Fighter II Turbo, Street Fighter II The New Challengers

The machines weigh in at 60 pounds, meaning they can easily be moved from room to room. There is some assembly required, but Arcade 1up says the machines can be put together in just 45 minutes. And no, they are not coin-operated, even though it would be a great option to really capture the authentic feel.

The cabinets are set to release on September 25th, 2018, and pre-orders are currently available from GameStop for $399, though at the time of this writing, Walmart has the Street Fighter cabinet listed for pre-order at just $299. Considering an authentic cabinet will frequently drain a bank account a few thousand dollars, this price tag is pretty fair - it's the same cost as a PS4 Pro and $100 less than an Xbox One X.

The cabinets are almost similar to the NES and SNES classic, miniature versions of Nintendo's classic consoles that boast upgraded interfaces and shrunken sizes along with tons of games packed in. These cabinets should appeal to the more extreme members of the same target demographic, and the pieces are sure to liven up any collector's room.

It's gotten much harder to find bona fide retro arcades if you don't live in a large city like Portland or San Francisco, so these cabinets should also be a great alternative for small-town gamers that want to relive the feel of a classic arcade machine instead of the new, larger types of machines being produced like Halo: Fireteam Raven. Add in a smoke machine, and the essence of an 80's arcade has basically been captured.

Arcade 1up cabinets will be available on September 25th, 2018.
