  • Heard's role in the movie was reportedly reduced due to controversies surrounding the actress.
  • Negative critical reviews and fan dissatisfaction have impacted the film, and the future of Aquaman remains uncertain.

Aquaman 2 star Amber Heard has finally addressed the movie’s release after being silent during the promotion period and when the DC sequel premiered.

Heard managed to stay out of the spotlight after the strenuous legal battle with Johnny Depp. As soon as the verdict came out, fans demanded Warner Bros. to remove the actress from Aquaman 2. Although WB didn’t cut her role, the movie features relatively little of Heard as Mera. Additionally, the actress was nowhere to be seen during the promotions, and Mera was missing from most Aquaman 2 posters. Everyone realized the filmmakers didn’t want the actress talking to the media.

Taking it to Instagram, Heard uploaded throwback photos from when she was filming Aquaman 2. In the pictures, Heard can be seen donning the famous red wig and having fun. In the caption, she acknowledged the movie's release, expressing gratitude towards fans who celebrated her return as Mera. Heard wrote, “After all this time, Aquaman 2 made its splash (sorry, it’s too easy). Thank you to all of my fans for the overwhelming support and love in Mera's AQ return. Thank you so much. #aquaman.”

It’s no secret that Heard's role as Mera in Aquaman 2 was reportedly reduced because of controversies surrounding the star. During the defamation trial, Heard claimed the case impacted her role as Mera and that she had to fight hard to be in the movie. However, director James Wan said the intention for the franchise was always to have Heard's character with reduced screen time, claiming Aquaman 2 was always planned to focus on Arthur Curry and his half-brother Orm.

The entire backstage drama damaged the film, and fans quickly lost interest in the Jason Momoa movie. As a result, when Aquaman 2 was released on December 22, 2023, it met with negative critical reviews. Moreover, fans complained about the quality of the movie and panned Warner Bros. for ending DCEU on such a disastrous note. As of now, the future of Aquaman remains uncertain due to changes in the leadership of DC Studios. Also, there are reports that Momoa might play Lobo in the new DC Universe. So, things are not looking bright for the Atlanteans.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is currently playing in theaters.
