  • Amber Heard's role as Mera in Aquaman 2 was significantly reduced, as testified by the actress during her defamation trial, likely explaining her absence in promotional materials.
  • Omitting Amber Heard from the Aquaman 2 poster could be the production's response to fans who refuse to watch the film due to her involvement, indicating that they heard their concerns.

Aquaman 2 recently received a new poster, but it raised some eyebrows, with several fans complaining about the noticeable omission of Amber Heard as Mera.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is marred by drama due to casting issues. Heard, who plays Mera in the first movie and sequel, was involved in a high-profile trial with her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. The public had mixed opinions on the televised trial, with some siding with her and others with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor. Consequently, some people wanted Heard fired from Aquaman 2. During the trial, the actress said she fought "really hard" to keep the role. Heard is still Mera in Aquaman 2, but she's noticeably missing in the newest poster, and it didn't sit well with fans who loved her as the fierce Atlantean warrior princess.

Kevin Smith Has An Explanation For Jason Momoa's Aquaman 2 Controversy

Kevin Smith defended Jason Momoa's alleged behavior on the Aquaman 2 set and seemingly knows the cause of those poor test screenings.

Aquaman 2's official Instagram and Twitter accounts dropped the newest promo on Tuesday. It featured Jason Momoa's Aquaman and Patrick Wilson's Orm standing alongside each other, close to land. Aquaman rocks a gold and green suit with a trident in one hand, while Orm dons a black suit similar to the titular superhero instead of his Ocean Master suit. The newest film poster for Aquaman 2 raised some eyebrows, especially from those rooting for Heard as Mera.

Glen Miley Collier reacted by sharing a gif file featuring Heard as Mera and captioned it with, "We need an Aquaman 2 poster with Mera." Several netizens agreed, with @lauraslayed commenting, "Yes we are," and @ivy writing, "No Mera, no money." Dani Fethez also demanded that it's time to release the Mera poster while seemingly criticizing the bromance between Aquaman and Orm. "Give us Amber Heard," Fethez added. Another user with X handle Venus Deathtrap shared a fan art ditching Aquaman and Orm for a solo photo of Mera.

The reaction from fans who love Heard's portrayal of Mera is understandable because she's been part of the previous posters. Additionally, the flame-haired warrior is a formidable character in the franchise. Mera has been a trusted protector of Atlantis alongside Aquaman and a respected DC superhero in her own right.

However, Heard's absence in the newest poster is not unexpected. Heard testified during the defamation trial that her role as Mera in Aquaman 2 was significantly reduced, and Warner Bros. didn't want to include her in the Lost Kingdom. Thus, the production will likely not have her in any promotional materials for Aquaman 2. Also, several people said they won't watch the film because she's still part of it, so omitting her on the poster could be the production's response to let those people know they heard them.

Aquaman 2 will be released in theaters on December 22, 2023.
