A new rumor suggests that Apple is going to release an expensive VR headset with 8K capabilities. The inside tip floating around references multiple premium features for Apple's device, resulting in the high cost.

VR  has been around for decades, but began to take shape more recently. Currently, there are a handful of VR headset devices on the market for fans to pick up. However, these options have seen a wide range of reception due to technological limits and costly entry prices. Despite it not resolving the price issue, the new headset by Apple sounds like it will be taking the hardware up a notch.

Recent reports did mention how Apple is working on a high-end VR device, and the new rumor confirms this further. Technology website The Information reveals a slew of insider data giving a better look at the headset. It sounds like it will utilize dual 8K displays with eye-tracking features, a resolution far above what is currently available. The catch is that it is not running at 8K consistently, but makes use of eye-tracking to improve resolution only where the user is looking.

The rumor details certain characteristics like a headband and mesh fabric to attain a lightweight design. The hardware will be stronger than Apple's M1 chip, and the team is supposedly experimenting with extra features too. As a VR device first and foremost, it does not look like AR will be a primary focus. Though, acquiring this headset will likely be out of reach for casual fans of virtual reality. The price could reach $3,000, way outside the range of the other main headsets on the market like Oculus Quest 2.

Since the report indicates that this product is still years out from release, nothing is official yet. It is interesting to hear that Apple is working on a headset that can attain impressive results. Vitrual reality could see widespread use within a few years. Yet from this rumor, it does not look like Apple's device will be marketed towards the general population. Despite the cost, it is important for developers to push the buck and aim to reach the potential of this technology.

Even the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X only aim for 4K capabilities, on top of the fact that great VR compatible experiences are few and far between. But should this Apple headset materialize, it will surely take virtual reality to new heights.
