Respawn Entertainment has just released a new update for the ever-popular battle royal, Apex Legends. The small update features several quality-of-life fixes for Apex Legends players on PC and Nintendo Switch, but Respawn also has some surprise tweaks in store for ranked players.

Season 20: Breakout has brought a host of changes to Apex Legends. Each Legend now has access to a unique skill tree, with players able to unlock and choose game-changing new talents as they earn points to level up their Evo shield. Ranked play has also been re-imagined, with a new reward system that incentivizes combat over camping as players battle to reach the elusive Masters and Apex Predator ranks. Breakout Rewards also offer players unique challenges to unlock additional legends permanently. Gamers have so far been able to get their hands on Seer, Fuse, Rampart, and Mad Maggie, while Valkyrie and Loba will become available over the next few weeks before the season ends.

Apex Legends Tournament Disrupted by Hackers

Apex Legends hackers disrupt a major tournament, causing pro players and fans to question the game's overall security system.

The Apex Legends community has generally enjoyed these latest additions, praising Respawn for allowing players to try out different characters and play styles without needing to spend real, or even in-game, money. However, this season has not been without its issues. An unexpected number of Apex players recently logged in only to find their accounts completely reset after the recent April Fools update (which, unfortunately, was not an elaborate April Fools’ prank by the developer). Respawn quickly sprung into action, taking servers offline and issuing a fix. However, some players then found their ranked badges missing or displaying the wrong ranking. According to the developers, the new update will ensure that they will display correctly again, and Apex champions can once more flex their proudest achievements.

The new update has also brought a change to how ranked parties will be grouped. Ranked parties will now have a limit of a 3-rank tier difference between players, meaning that players will be grouped with people of similar abilities to ensure that matches remain competitive and fair. As one of the best cross-play titles to play with friends, gamers will be relieved that items sent as gifts can now be properly previewed when they are received. Furthermore, the update also gives Switch players a much-needed stability boost, hopefully resulting in fewer crashes and smoother gameplay.

While the latest patch may not be game-changing, it certainly provides some essential fixes for hardcore and casual fans alike. And with the current Shadow Society event well underway and a new leaked character coming in Season 21 of Apex Legends, there is plenty for players to get excited about.

Apex Legends Update Patch Notes:

  • Ranked parties now have a limit of a 3-rank tier difference between players
  • Previously earned Ranked badges should now display the correct rank
  • Fix for Connection error Code:Cloud when reconnecting after a crash
  • You can now correctly see previews of gifted items when receiving them
  • Various minor fixes for localization, items, and cosmetics
  • Several fixes to address Switch stability
