When it dropped back in 2019, Respawn shocked everyone with Apex Legends. Not only was the battle royale shooter a surprise, but it also changed the formula by adding characters like Overwatch. Generally speaking, it brought new life into a genre that many thought already reached its ceiling thanks to Fortnite and PUBG. Three years later, Apex Legends is still going strong, with even more characters and more modes to keep things fresh.

Each season, Respawn adds something new apart from a new character. Season 11 introduced Storm Point, one of the bigger maps in the game. It takes out the chaos of other maps and replaces it with strategy. If players use these tips for Apex Legends' Storm Point map, they will have an advantage.

Updated May 12, 2022, By Raza Malik: As a live service game Apex Legends is constantly evolving, and as new changes come, so does the way people play the game. Apex Legends' updates vary depending on importance, with the mid-season ones typically involving smaller changes; however, the bigger ones tend to alter gameplay quite drastically because each new season introduces a new legend. When showcasing new legends, the meta of Apex Legends also changes, forcing Respawn to alter their game so it hopefully becomes better balanced. As Apex Legends beings its thirteenth season with the introduction of a new legend in Newcastle, it comes with a slew of new changes mostly impacting the Storm Point map. Therefore, it's a good time to revisit this list for new and old players to win more often than not.

13 Downed Beast

apex legends downed beast

One of the more noticeable changes, players will notice a massive beast washed up on shore at one of the beaches located on Storm Point. While this is an attractive Point of Interest for players, they should approach it with caution because it is filled with high-level loot, so the earlier players get to this location, the higher the survivability of the squad becomes.

However, players should note that other squads will also be heading to the Downed Beast because of the loot, so they should gear up fast and then run out because fighting at that point becomes easier. Another cool aspect of this Downed Beast is that players can head inside it to either trap enemies or get cover because the area is so big they can easily outmaneuver the other squad and escape if they try hard enough. The main thing to take away from this location is that players should drop early in this area and loot as fast as the rest of the squad can.

12 Sniping

While Storm Point isn't as open as the other maps, players shouldn't forget to have at least one sniper with them so they can see long distances. If players have a sniper on them most of the time, they can easily shoot the enemy squad while having great cover from the rest of the teams. The sniping does alter each update but for the most part, players who start to use the snipers will get more shots in than players who go up closer.

Being a battle royale with one life mechanic, players and their squad will feel safer if they fight at a distance since upfront is where things can easily fall apart. With the many options of snipers scattered throughout this area, it makes Storm point one of the better maps to snipe in Apex Legends. On top of that, players who snipe can have a better advantage at getting enemies first since they can study the location they're heading to and use the ping system to call out the exact position of the enemy or squad.

11 IMC Armories

apex legends imc armory

These locations were added to Storm Point in the new season and act in the same way as the Downed Beast. The IMC Armories are also filled with really high-level loot and, just like the Downed Beast, become a hot spot for many squads.

The IMC Armories act has a PVE event which does require the whole team to work together since it does become challenging. The player has to first walk into these Armories and trigger the event by grabbing an item, causing hordes of robots to come down on the squad for a limited amount of time.

After the player's squad gets past the horde, they will have access to high-level armor. However, while players are fighting these hordes, they should note that enemies squads can still close in on them because these Armories aren't locked to one team.

10 Adapt To The Updates

As mentioned before, Respawn is always changing Apex Legends' meta to improve balancing and gameplay. Consequently, players shouldn't get too comfortable with how they approach a map like Storm Point because Apex Legends becomes a different game during each season. Players should experiment and see how the guns have changed with each update.

Plus a new legend dropping in Apex Legends means players have to adapt to their playstyle. They have to quickly change their meta to accommodate Newcastle, then learning the rest of the changes comes with ease. Players should constantly be changing how they play even when there aren't any updates.

9 Hot Zones

Hot zones move around during the course of every match, and they are indicated by the color blue. These locations are among the most important ones because they're filled with high-level loot, so squads heading there as soon as possible can gear up quickly, allowing them to spend looting time only on ammo, shields, and health.

When players can spend more time fighting and less time looting because they're already kitted up, the rest of the match becomes more tangible. However, players should be careful when heading to hot zones with their squads since they are an open invitation to be attacked.

8 Point of Interests

This rule is universal and can be applied to each map. However, Storm Point combines a lot of what the other three maps have to offer, so finding these can be easy if the player is feeling aggressive. Much like Kings Canyon, Storm Point has verticality in a lot of spots like buildings and multi-level spots. So players should keep a look for those areas either dropping or approaching them, due to the chances of having high-tier loot in those spots.

The downside is that these areas have cover and players that are spending more time here can easily see what's coming and going due to the height advantage one squad will have. Additionally, most POIs will be hot when players first drop-in, so they will need to have the whole squad there in order to have that backup.

7 Using The Right Legend

seer

The name of the game is strategy, and since Storm Point geography changes more than the other maps it's good to use a legend that puts strategy first while being aggressive at the same time. One of the newer legends, Seer, is a good choice for players to pick. He can help scout the area and also hold a position. As he's more of a recon legend, Seer and his squad can see what's coming/

The threat spotter is useful on this map, like Bloodhound's ability to see the enemy's feet, but rather than an ability, it's a passive thing for Seer. He can aim down on his sights, and it'll show him where the nearby enemy is by their heartbeat. This ability becomes even more useful after a firefight and the enemy squad has not gone down because the more health they've lost the faster the heartbeat becomes, allowing Seer and his squad to quickly find them and finish the job.

6 Horizon's Aid

Having a Horzion on the squad is a good idea because Storm Point has a lot of tight areas and firefights can be hectic there. Horizon can her and her squad a gravity boost that not only gives her squad a higher position but also allows them to breathe, take a better position, heal up, and just have a fighting chance. The gravity boots are multipurpose and can be used on enemies as well, especially in those tight areas where no one can move.

Horizon adds a higher chance of success because of flexible she is, adding her abilities like creating black holes which can pull an enemy out of cover, to pulling in enemies closer to her making it easier to hit, she has everything a good support character should have. Her mobility is an asset on a diverse map and can help players successfully fight back.

5 Gearing Up, Fast

As soon as players drop finding gear has to be prioritized otherwise players will have to use their fists. The good thing is that both the RE-45 and the P2020 are quite common and good starters. While not the best pistols in the Apex Legends they do the job at the start. Since players drop in empty-handed, once someone grabs one of the two pistols (or both) the players can easily keep enemies at bay and even down them.

They're not needed for long uses as players can easily discard them, but for the first couple rounds when it's firefight after firefight those pistols can be a lifesaver. On top of that, they're both relatively easy to handle so being able to hold enemies will come with ease. But the RE-45 does offer a good crowd control option that helps the enemies keep their distance due to its forgiving recoil.

4 Using Hearing

apex legends dropping

Since Apex Legends doesn't have a map showing where the enemies are because that wouldn't be fair, hearing becomes important. This can give players some sort of idea of where the enemy is and oftentimes they can almost predict where the enemy is going. Although this system has its issues like players can't hear footsteps until an enemy is near them, when it works it helps.

Once players master that, they can help spot enemies close by and try to get an advantage over them. But, at the same time players should be cautious because the hearing aspect of the Apex Legends is used by all the players. So if a squad is rushing another, a third squad could hear that and wait it out till the fighting stops and come in finish up.

3 Backpacks

apex legends backpack

When players have a level 1 backpack, that can fill up fast forcing them to pick and choose what to store. Issues pop up when looting and the player has to do inventory management all while hoping they don't get shot at. It just limits the player from actually fighting. Looking for a higher-level backpack should be on the to-do list, not the top property, but it's still really important.

A level 4 backpack while rare, it's an automatic winner when found because of its perks. It can revive players and give them health upon revival, and it restores the 50 percent health and 50 percent shield which acts as a bonus. Having more inventory space and the addition of healing can make one player a lifesaver when things go south.

2 Knowing Where the Enemy Is

valkyrie apex legends

Everyone goes into Apex Legends blind because it's a battle royale, but knowing the approximate location of an enemy squad can change the tide quickly. Consequently, Valkyrie uses her flight abilities on the battlefield to get the upper hand, and her passive is extremely useful not just for her but for her teammates.

When Valkyrie and the team drop, they can see exactly where the other squads are landing, giving them a pretty good idea of what's going on at ground level. The best part about this ability is that it does not work only when dropping at the start of a match, but it activates whenever Valkyrie takes flight, including her ultimate. Since Storm Point has no jump points, she can still be useful here.

1 Team Composition Matters

Picking legends that fit a bunch of different roles can help turn the fight in the player's favor. If the squad is diverse, with Bangalore, Gibraltar, and Lifeline for example, then playing should be easy.

These characters fit the main roles needed; Bangalore is the offensive, they can run and gun and be quite problematic with her smoke screen, Gibraltar can act as a shield to pull in the enemy squad so the other two can flank, and Lifeline can heal and revive players easily. All these roles complement one another, Bangalore can unleash a smokescreen to protect the squad or hide Lifeline while they are healing, and Gibraltar can drop his shield down to help them escape quicker.

Apex Legends was released on February 4, 2019, and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch.
